Hi, does anyone know if the SR20 S15 gearbox is anything like the SR20 S13/14 gearbox? besides being a 6M. what i basically need to know is can i change the bellhousing etc as one would do to an S13/14 gearbox to squeeze it into their mighty 1200.

I'm pretty sure it's the same dimensionally. Everyone here swaps them for S14 5-speeds because the 6-speeds just don't hold up. They added another gear by making everything smaller (and weaker).

I have also heard pretty bad things about the strength of the 6-speeds. Not sure about the size though sorry.

I've lots of bad things about the owners of S15s... about how they don't know how to drive, and are constantly breaking their 6 speed boxes...

But getting serious, the 6 speed housing is quite a bit bigger in the rear. This means quite a bit more tunnel massaging around the shifter.

They are longer too, so you'll need to shorten your tailshaft

I imagine if it's going into a much lighter car (1200 for example) reliability issues will minimize and it may be a viable alternative. If you've got mountains of cash HKS makes an excellent SR 6-speed

well that answers that question. i think ill give it a go and as you said the transfer into a lighter car may reduce "breakages". If it doesnt work atleast i know ill have the room to stick in the S13 5spd cheers guys
