It really does seem as though the car scene is totally dead. I think i've seen more ferrari's and lamborghini's this month than i have modified turbo cars and definitely more than i've seen datsuns!
It's pretty amazing.

I must get along to a QPDC meet again i guess.

It sure is, nothing new, it seems everything has been done (overdone in the case of sr/fj/ca conversions in dattos YAWN!)

Ahh to press the reset button and go back to 1970.....

PS. They should rename the QPDC to QPDC...Queensland Performance Dime Club haha

As secretary of the local street machine club, I feel the car scene has dropped off for us slightly older and past the hoon phase folk.

There isnt the numbers on cruises anymore. Every one is busy, financially insecure and the issue of cops does not help. There is a relucatance to get the modified car out on a run, for the shear risk of getting a defect.

I didnt attend a charity run last week, because it started at 7pm and I was pretty sure I would have copped a defect notice. My coupe attracts attention both good and bad. Having had modified cars all my life the cops sticker them and ask questions later.

Comment removed, dont want to stir up a hornets nest

But at the end the end of the day I am all for a group of people getting out in there cars and having a social outing. Our club hase a range of vehicles, which we aim to get out on cruises, shows and support our local communities.

At the end of the day, some mis guided people, generally in plastic v6 vehicles bring police attention to the car scene and give the whole cruise scene a bad name. The invent of certain internet based cruise clubs here in WA that idolise hoon driving have lead to the WA police been vigilant in the way that they are. Police want safe vehicles and people on our road and dont get me wrong I agree with that, but unfortunately if you are in a modified vehicle that is leagal and your club ends up in the wrong place at the wrong time you get done.

It has died down for sure, well for the meeting then all going to the highway. It was being advertised to much on forums like boostcruising.com and became to public of locations and plans, so there was a moment were they will show up every time marked and unmarked. People lost there pride and joys and just couldn't recover with cost also their licences. Im talking about QLD that is.

You don't see new popping up on the roads, you'll see something and be like yeah i've seen it before. only thing that changes are the owners

I would think being involved in a street machine club the cleché of bagging another's taste in cars would be old and tired? We all know not everything is someone else's cup of tea.

As for the it's "all been done" label that can be a little harsh. Considering most of us put alot of time into our cars ,it's public attitudes similar to this which stop alot of newcomers to the scene feeling welcome.
Even better why don't those who believe that's true, get out in the shed and show the rest how to do it.

There is alot of elitism in the car scene and it's that IMO that is killing clubs

The whole police thing is another issue also. Most Police just want you in a safe car driving it in a safe manner. I can confess I'd look harder at someone's car if they highlighted themselves as an ass clown or got busted doing something stupid in a public place too.

We'd all be better of if we were a united front sharing a common interest in cars and keeping our negative opinions to ourselves.

i agree with the elitism for sure, regular guys that work on their own cars in their own time definitely cant keep up with drug dealers etc that throw thousands and thousands at cars having other people build them show cars.

Yes we can all dream of being united and respectful of each other's cars...but its just that...a dream. Only about 1 in 10 people who comment on my project say 'good work, the A12 is a great motor'. The other 9 chime in with 'why dont you put a rotor/fj/ca/sr in it?' or 'why are you bothering??'. And that's when I started disliking said engines. It's pretty hard to find a Datsun with an original series engine in it these days.

Don't be a hater! :) Good to see some more love for the 120s. Maybe there be enough of us soon to do a flashmob to a glee song?!

Then...... And only then can we be happy
