Seriously, customers are so much worse than we are. Of course as salespeople we manipulate certain information in order to make a sale. A perfect example is where we may overplay the availability of a certain model to increase the buying desire and make the customers make a quicker decision. At my dealership that is pretty much the limit of truth manipulation we use.
Our dealership is in the top 10 in the country for customer satisfaction so honesty is integral to our daily culture. Other dealerships may not possess the same ethics however. And bodgy car yards are totally different. They're selling what they know is crap and selling it as though it is good.
I stand by my original statement the customers are worse than us. Customers will straight out lie just to get a better price. Let's say they have a price of $33000 from another dealership. They will come to us and lie to our faces and tell us they have had a price of $30000. Do they get a bad reputation? Nope.

I can't let this statement pass without comment.

The underlined portion is very likely deceptive and misleading conduct contrary to the Consumer and Competition Act 2010. Don't do that. You could get well and truly reamed.

As for the conduct of the customers and their apparent lying. If they come in and spout these other offers, simply call their bluff. Find out who the competitor is, make inquiries, know your market .Do your homework. You don't have to sell at the stated price they say they are prepared to pay.

Rule #1. Buyers are liars.
Rule #2. What you pay is what you get.

Its amazing how they sometimes return to see you after you suggest they go and buy the "too good to be true" deal.

Hey Ewan, WTF. You must be losing your touch to let 2 ripper utes out of your clutches. Oh well as the man said "you gotta love the one you're with."

Keep at it mate

You're dead right Larry. We get a lot of people back peddling as soon as you suggest they might be best buying at the magical price they have from elsewhere!
I love reaching for my wallet suggesting "I'll give you $100 to put down a deposit on one for me! That price is amazing!!!".
You're right, I am losing my touch! Getting soft in my old age!
I do love the one I'm with but I'd just love one more!
