Hi guys (and girls)

I havnt been in for a while, projects have been a bit stagnant but getting back into it now. I was wondering if my a12 is behaving as it should be, heres how it goes. With choke fully out it will start first pop. I need to hold choke at least half way out when cold but engine runs rough while its like this. If I push choke in it will die if no throttle but if I have throttle it will spit and pop out both ends. It wont run perfectly without choke until the thermostat has opened.

Is this normal for the a12? I have only really had experience with SU carbs which are a dream to cold start, just have the choke out for the first block and you are sweet as after that.

cheers,
Cameron

That is not normal. It should run perfectly smooth on the choke, no rough running, no spitting or coughing.

Sounds like your points need adjustment or replacement. What is the dwell set to?

Hi guys, I overhauled the carby today. Got a kit from appco. After spending a few hours cleaning and assembling I got the engine running again and its running absolutely perfect. Very happy with it now. Only things that stood out in the carb as being a bit dodgy were a perished accelerator pump piston and a really clogged up brass filter at the inlet before the float valve. There may have been crap somewhere else in the carby or a leak but nothing I saw. Anyway its running great now right from cold. I couldn't be happier as I was worried that it was just how datsun engine ran and Id have to warm up before going anywhere.

cheers,
Cameron
