Hi everyone would like to know whats the best fuel to run in my ca18det.

shell v power or bp ultimate is what I use.

unless its a high HP machine that needs the extra octance to prevent pinging or such, i doubt that you will ever get any measurable performance/maintenaince/positive gains. For any std motor, regular 91 octance is fine (unless the manufactuer specifies oherwise). Hec for most mildly worked motors, 91 octane is fine.

Yes, in theory higher octane equals more power but its not that simple.

In saying that, for the extra few dolars per tank, the higher octane fuel isnt a bad investment really, just not measurable in any way... which doesent make it a good investment at all....

The other reasons for using bp ultimate or v power is that it has higher amounts of detergents keeping the injectors cleaner!

I have used these fuels in my car since I got it just rarely if prices are too high i would run 95 or 91 octane when I rebuilt the head the valves were clean with very minimal amounts of carbon the piston top was also very clean with only a slight black appearance but no build up of carbon.

I cant say for sure if this results would be similar with 91 octane as a rarely use it but if it is the 98 octane fuel it keeps the internals really clean!

please dont take offense a12datto120y, its not that your story is untrue or not correct, but without any sort of accurate testing process whereby a control, blind and double blind trials are used to demonstrate the actual differences, then its just anecdotal evidence, which holds little water.

Im just skeptical when the only evidence is either anecdotal or comes from the people selling it is all.

no offence taken I totally agree that their isn't enough evidence proving its effectivnes even i am unsure if its the 98 octane fuel that makes the difference or not unless their are extensive test carried out its not clear if one has an benefit over the other.

i was just stating what i had seen from solely using 98 octane fuel but cant say its that what made the difference!

Hi louix i made that mistake already put e10 in the datto the other day,went like #OOPS# and not to mention how quickly it went through the fuel.Drove to canberra used over a half a tank,filled it up with 95, on the way back went through not even a quarter of a full tank.

I run e10 all the time and notice no difference in fuel consumption. In the lancer (carb engine) it seems like it runs a tiny bit cleaner. No measureable difference in fuel consumption. The prevailing winds have a much bigger effect. Tail or zero 600kms to the tank, head or side wind, squeezing 500 (all on the highway). Same results for any type of fuel it will run on.
