Was looking at the 12 sheet one. Was wanting to do the floor, firewall, doors and roof in a ute. Did 9 sheets cover yours?

I've dynamat'd the whole interior of my ute, made a huge difference. I cant remember what i paid for it but i used 3 boxes, might have been $80 each but don't quote me. also put dynaliner on the under side of the bonnet which worked really well, that was just one box.

why on earth would you want to use roof tar - just because its cheap? Bad idea....
if your going to put an actual coating on on the floor pans use a spray on bedliner & be done with it. You've got it that far torn down so mask off everything in the car you dont want it on & spray it - the spray guns are pretty cheap, the materials not terribly expensive & it cures to a hardened state - roof tar will NEVER do that. Do you want gooey, warmed tar under your feet & carpet - not trying to be critical here but personally I think its a horrible idea but hey - its your car.
Lizard Skin, SPI bedliner, google search it..... a lot of it I think you can roll apply as well so no spraying - dont use tar!

edp, your right on tar not bieng ideal for the job. Sure a product designed for the job is the best way to go, but if you are on the shoestring budget, then tar works well enough. I does eventually go hard enough. The stuff I painted onto my old patrol went hard after a few years.
That soundproofing job cost me about $50 total, which at the time when I was earning $385/week gross @ $9.60/hr, that was expensive. I used the old underlay from my mums house (free), and it worked fine.
But, yeah, if you have the cash, the right product for the right job is the best way to go.

Have you seen the Australian version of Dynamat called DBkill. A bit cheaper and free postage according to the ebay ad http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/dbkill-Car ... ories&hash=item336cfb9981I might give this a try when I get to that stage of my build.

I wasn't trying to bash on your work so my apologies if it came across that way, really my point is if your going to spend $50 on tar why not wait a month & spend $90 on roll on bedliner?
I understand working on a budget, been doing it all my life. Doing something with the wrong product to just save a buck IMHO is always the wrong way - thats just me, I'd rather wait till I can afford the proper product then use a sub par substitute which I'll likely regret. Theres also foil faced & non faced bitumen membranes available from roofing supply companies, there made by Grace & GAF, they're also peel & stick, matter of fact I have a box of it from a job & I considered using it in the coupe but decided to try the stuff formulated for sound & heat - in the end I dont think there's much difference other then the mil thickness, the rumble mat was quite thicker & I dont know if the grace stuff I have has asphalt based material in it, I wanted all rubber.
I think I bought the 24" wide x 50' roll for about $60 US awhile back - much cheaper, roll on bedliners are pretty reasonable but some are asphalt based. Herculiner, Rhino liner & a ton of other brands are available & rollers are cheap.
The next car I do that needs a repaint I'll spray bedliner instead of even using peel & stick membrane.

No offense taken, and thanks for the aplogies, although completly unneeded. Its nice to know that there are some people out there who dont instantly get their back up. My kudos to you.
Forums are devoid of all emotion and the sutble non-verbal ques that makes the english language so intricate, so I make sure that I never take any comments made by anyone to heart. Its all someones opinion, and thats the point of a newsgroup/forumn. Its a collection of peoples opinions and its that bit that makes forums such a good place for information.
Back on topic, It sounds to me edp, that they stuff you are talking about is certainly the way to go, and for US$60 its pretty cheap really.

The roofing tar I used on my ke25 rolla dried in summer within 3 weeks and I just painted it with acrylic paint looked a treat. The cotton noise dampening underlay breathes well and has excellent sound proofing.
