Ok well I recently got my motor built and put in my car it is a relatively very very built a14 to start it is a night mare

A14 block forged flat top pistons, stroked to 1.67l or there abouts, head fully worked dual valve springs. Rockers, full port and polish to suit manifold that leads to twin 45 mm webbers re jetted to 48mm, electric fuel pump and dizzy, etc..

The car only cranks slowly so I thought battery connected my xr6 via jumper leads and cranks normal then goes really slow again..

So now I think it's timming where should the timming be set I've moved the dizzy to multiple positions with no really big change..

Any help will be appreciated cheers

maybe you dizzy is out by 180 degrees thats what happened to me when i rebuilt the engine.

It could be timing. To check, disconnect the wire to the distibutor and crank it over (with no spark). It if still turns slowly, it is not the spark timing.

If that doesn't work, try jump starting it. If it turns over normal, then you have a battery/wiring/starter problem.

It could be an overly high compression than you figured on. Or maybe the bearings are too tight. you can test this by removing all the spark plugs and then seeing if you can rotate the crank by hand. If it's in nuetral you should be able to easily turn the crank 360 degrees using the water pump fan or by grabbing the fan belt (but be careful not to pinch your fingers). If you cannot rotate or is very difficult then the engine is tight.

is the cam timing correct? who assembeled the engine? when no:4 inlet and exhaust valves are rocking, no:1 is firing.
