Thought id put up a pic of my ute. Built her slowly over the last 3.5 years, started with no mechanical or car building knowledge what so ever! Thanks to this site and friends she is close to being on the road and registered.

Just a question, I’ve finally bled the brakes and taken her for the first drive, as I’ve never driven a Datsun before I was just wandering what the brake pedal should feel like. It takes a fair bit of effort to brake hard and it feels like when under hard braking the car would never skid. Is that a normal feeling to have without a brake booster?

Thanks for all the help over the years datsun1200.com and the members.

Heres a pic (few little things to do before she is complete)

My old ute had drum brakes all round and that was a bitch to slow down. IT would never lock up even when my foot was flat on the brakes.

Put it this way, after I've been driving the Datsun I just about go through the wind screen when I get back in the Lancer. It's normal for them to feel quite a bit harder, they should still lock and do everything else they're supposed to do if you push hard enough.

Its called pedal feel ;)

New cars with brake boosters dont have it.

When I first got into my ute it scared the bejeebuz out of me, now that I am used to it I wouldnt have it any other way,

Thanks for the replies, it has disc front end set up. I need to get used to the 'pedal feel'!

I havn't been over 30km/h yet so that could explain not locking up, just done a few hard stops to try and bed the new rear drums in

Looks mint ,I mine wouldn't lock up unless I jumped on the pedal at speed ,but at lowish speed it shouldnt lock up ,it should just stop Haha

I'm running 180b brakes and they are a huge improvement over disks but still I only put them in for the coilovers not the extra braking power

Love your ute though ,good to see its getting some love!
