Ok I'm wondering how to add more power to my A12 motor. The only thing I've done to it is add an new air intake but the rest is stock.

Gear/diff ratios are a great place to start then head work and cam better if u build the whole motor, elec ignition decent carby or carbys depends on budget

the answer really depends on the budget. how much can you burn for this project, what application you want to use your motor, and not to forget, emission thingy. in some country, emission stuff can be PITA

Well my budget isn't very much whatever I do do I kinda have to peace meal together. I can always save for the big stuff and the more I can do myself the better. I'd like to set it up for racing and emisions don't really matter a whole lot but I first wanted to get some idea of things that can give my little A12 more power.

i have done extractors, 2 inch exhaust, brand new 32/36 weber carby, electronic dizzy, new high performance coil and ignition leads and a good tune and it has a decent amount more power you can feel the difference from stock it also runs like a dream and doesn't cough and spit all that cost me around $1000..

I agree gearing but a cheap way is to get 175 55 13 tyres, with my a15 and 4 speed made crazy acceleration but crap top end. I liked it much better like that.

Questions questions questions..............set up for what kind of racing? SCCA, track days, vintage, rally, drags???

The easiest thing to do will be to install an A14 or 15...............this will be a 12HP jump, add a mild cam and a 32/36 weber and you should be able to get up to 90 hp or better.

Buy some sway bars and wheels and tires first.................it will be more fun to drive. Adding more power means limited slip diff, better brakes etc. A full race A12 makes about 100 HP at the wheels............this will translate to a 15 second 1/4 mile, so even with a full race engine (not streetable, no power below 5k) it's still not exactly fast. Upgrade the brakes and suspension and keep an eye on Phoenix & Tucson craigslist for 210 or 310...............$500 will get you a bigger engine and possible a 5 speed tranny.

I agree gearing is the key as in the state you can source
5 speed gearbox and 4.875 rear end, electronic ignition and lighter flywheel and take the head off to increase comp with a shave. You still maintain economy, more torque and better response in all gears and conditions.
