A mate is currently fitting a worked L18 into his 120Y 2dr wagon. Only needs motor mounts and new rubber mounts, and new tailshaft and he's done.

Ide start with electronic ignition ,crane is #OOPS# and cost 220 bucks

Get a pulsar dizzy or a petronix kit then either a hec715 or mec717 coil for it ,cheapest and best mod to do first

Next ide put a decent flowing exhaust on it and maybe shave the head to give it some more poke

Cam would be a very wise investment ,then after that you can put a h89 head on it and gx valve springs and a dgav weber.

Lock the diff and have some fun with it ,would be an awesome reliable moor to have fun with ,but if you wanna drag race a bigger motor is a must ,that or boost on the a12!

Ok well I have no idea what arizona has against engine swaps and that sort of thing. I do know I don't want to put and kind of swap in. I plan to get a stronger cam and shave some off the head and maybe bore out the engine and put stronger pistons in there. I doubt I wanna lock up the diff cause that could kill driving the car anywhere but the track. We have very very bad roads out here. The problem I'm dealing with right now is prioratizing. The car was originally a colorado car so it has rust and lots of it. I have two holes with a 2 inch or 50mm diameter in the floorboards of the passengerback seats, and that's not the half of my rust issues. So should I go power first or body first?

Body if it is that bad. No use spending money on go fast bits if the car isnt going to pass an inspection for registration. I learned that the hard way.

I also want more power out of my A series. I decided to go with headers and twin 40mm carbs which I havent installed yet. After reading your post and what others have said, I am really thinking electronic ignition is a good upgrade too and I should probably do this first.

As for the bodywork, well that can cost a fortune unless you dig in and do it yourself, just be prepared for the fact that it takes alot of time to get it perfect. If I were you I'd be looking for another shell somewhere in Arizona, Nevada, or New Mexico, or even over the border where its dry desert and the Datsun's were less likely to have rust, just my opinion though.

I'm gonna try to do some if not most of it myself. I don't feel particularly comfortable going to another shell. This is my first car and I'm alittle attached to it. Thx again everyone for the ideas and thoughts and cost effective ideas. Its given me quite allot to think about and I'm extremely greatful. Thank you

Can you get points conversion kits in the UK? They do just as good a job as a factory electronic dizzy and usually only just over half the price.
