true that, i didn't bother with the link

i remember the new barina (rebadged daewoo) of 2-3 years ago got 2 stars... came down from 4 or 5 on the previous holden made version, that was funny

i googled "great wall rust", lots of results came up with stories of that!, they would want to sort that pretty quick

i've never been in a great wall but have heard they arn't a bad rig apart from being slow, the 1700kg tow rating backs up a lack of power and perhaps braking though. funny how they have probably sold 100,000s but no one here has or knows someone who has one, 6 degrees of separation my butt

Finally someone who owns one!
After months of research i purchased a new dual cab turbo diesel,as you say its a Holden Rodeo/Isuzu D Max/Colorado chassis all made in Thailand then shipped to differant manufacturers for fitout. The turbo diesel in mine is mitsubishi sourced coupled to the new 6 speed Mazda/Ford gearbox down to the Rodeo LSD.Full leather interior electric everything with a factory towing capacity of 2000kg(braked)it has a 3year 100 thousand km warranty along with 3 year roadside assist in the drive away price. Now i was going to buy a new Mazda but they are so ugly now not to mention the outrages price,$55000 for what i wanted and got with the wall.My fuel consumption tests have revealed a city cycle of 8 litres=100klm and a country figure of 9.2lt=100klms and this was achieved whilst towing the race car on tandem trailer.
I have no complaints with the vehicle to date other than it has a lousy turning circle and as long as you keep it around boost(with trailer) its fine, drop below this and you need to pluck another gear, small price to pay for a 25K saving i reckon.Anyway if it all turns to sh#@ in the future i can trade it on another and still be in front by thousands.
Tell the"olds" to go try one,you might all be surprised.
Hope this helps.
Cheers

The hilux workmate link is 2008-09 model just past the depreciation time.
not ten years old and 2250kg braked trailer capacity.

Id rather an 1980-82 Valiant Wagon with Hopper stoppers all round, injected LPG
and factory air, power windows, aftermarket central locking and will last longer
better than any of the suv 4wd available with awesome torque.
Thats me too, I love old cars as they dont make it as they used to.

Ah, the rebadged Daewoos... What a masterstroke THAT was!! Daewoos were the perfect examples of disposable cars too - Okay whilst brand new (and under warranty), but after 3 years, throw it over your shoulder and get a new one.

Dave, I like your thinking! CM Regal Wagon, with lounge chairs for front seats and enough room to put a mattress in the back without folding the back seat down, and a Fireball on gas under the hoodie. Those things will keep going strong and pull stumps, long after the body has rusted away to a bare chassis!

But back to the task at hand...

R_T, You're just out of Toodyay, yeah? Is your Old Man out that way as well? Presuming he is, the closest Great Wall dealership to you would be Midland I know Toodyay's only about an hour from Midland, but should any warranty issues arise, it's still a bit of a hike. What about an '05-'06 GU IV Patrol Wagon 4.2L TDi? The MY05 was the last of the old 4.2L, which we all know will have no towing issues whatsoever and are comfy as well as robust. The pov pack DX can be found for around the mid 20's too (ST's about the 30K mark).

Apart the CM valiants Id love a Nissan 260 or 280c Cedric Wagon with L28ET with all luxury items still working flawlessly. Years ago heading to Bunyip my mate was gunning the 240K L28 sedan just to keep up with a beaut 280c sedan, a few days later at the shops we flagged him down to find it had an L28ET.

+11ty for the valiant wagon

buy this - http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/becken ... iant-cl-regal-/1002132758

throw a few grand at it for suspension tweaks / upgrades, chuck an after market air con unit and a LPG conversion, and relax and enjoy.

SRooster if that had a slant 6 Id be flying right now to get it.
5 years ago I went to Sydney to buy one in creme white only for
the owner to sell it an hour before I got there.
The only car in the 80s with full steel bumpers with no rubber on
them and the slant 6 is still used by John Deere tractors.
The 318 is still an excellent engine that can have awesome torque
especially with 4 barrel four port lpg injection costs about 4.5-7K
but well worth it considering such a fine vehicle with styling and
heavy duty construction that will retain/increase its value with age.

Love the broken door handle... If it has all 4 handles, it ain't a Valiant haha!
I was actually tempted to buy this Val, but decided on a D21 Navara tray top ute to be my no-frills weekend workhorse. Oh, and more goodies (WATAS!! ) for my 1000, of course!

It only gets 2 stars on the ANCAP system is that is the default amount a commerical vehicle gets without having to pass any tests....

Probably safer than a 1200.....just.

Death on wheels by todays standards, I drive them at work they are very very bad, even worse than a hilux - now that is saying something.
