Thats more of a plausible sizing for the choke. Even a full tilt A-series at 1608cc would probably perform better across its workable rev range with 36mm chokes. I used to run 36mm choke tubes and went back to 34mm. The end result was better punch out of low speed corners on the track

At the end of the day if the choke tubes are what have been modified, its not such a big deal to replace with an appropriate size of choice.

I'm with Benny on this one. Not dissing you there orange1200, but I have both my cars tuned by Joe and the 1200 coupe (on the wall near the door) with an L20 had the chokes machIned out (all but removed) to 45mm. This made the carby throat (45mm) match the valve size and allowed the use of 45 webers rather than 48's. There is no way a street driven A series could have 45 ( or larger) chokes - the science just isn't there. The yellow coupe is still the highest HP n/a 8 valve carby motor he has had on the dyno
Cheers.

for the record, I wasn't having a go at anyone with my comments. I'm just as keen to get to the bottom of what specific webers they are because I would be keen to make an offer if they happen to be a pair of dcoe 9s and that they haven't been modded in some way that would preclude me fitting 36 (or possibly 34mm chokes in them.

would it be possible to get more details from the bloke who set them up please?

Well why are you removingthem if they run fine ? Seems suss to go backwards to what youv already got

45mm carbs on most a series motors are to big and need choking heaps

I tryed helping a mate out with his fairly worked a15 that had 45s with 43mm chokes ,it wouldnt idle ,popped consistantly and ran like #OOPS# no matter what we did

Good luck with the sale

so any updates as to whether they are dcoe 9 or 13 or 152?? As I said, if they are dcoe 9s and haven't been machined out for larger chokes than would normally physically fit in there, I'll be keen to make an offer..
