Hello all!
I need some help. A lot of help. I need ideas on wot to do to my 1200 ute. I mean ive got ideas but they are too over the top and i know ill never to be able to afford or get it registered.
Ive had the car for nearly 3 years. I bought it for $500 no rego no nothing. When i bought it i thought to myself, sick you know ive got a 1200 ute. But then that was the end of it. After that i didnt bother with it. It sat in my garage for 2 years b4 i even decided to do anything with it. Well i didnt really decide my mum told me to get in registered in a year or its goin to the wreckers. So i thought id pull my finger out and start on it. At the beginin i wasnt really into it. Like i got it interior and torno cover and things like that but it took me 6 months. But after a while of buyin things for it, spendin a lot of time on it i wouldnt want anything else besides a datto ute. Ive had the engine rebiult and ive bought all new panels for it so it can get painted in 3 weeks. YAY
But i have no idea wot to do with the engine. I mean i got it reconditioned but only so i could get it registered easy. I didnt want it off tap first cos i knew there was no way in hell of getttin it registered.
But neways, sorry bout the blab , but yes ideas ppl i need ideas. Give me examples of wot u guys have done to, or wud like to do to ur car.
Anything would be of much help.

Thanks in advance for the advice.

PS dnt go crazy with tellin me to get it tubbed and bagged cos thats gone thru my head and i know ill never be able to afford it. (Unless i sell my body on the street hmmm) LOL which will never happen.

I say
nice paint
bigger wheels
a little dropped
lipped guards
smoothed off fuel filler with an aviation/ motorbike style filler flush with the body
twin side webbers
street cam
headers/ extractors
nice stereo
checker plate tray
chrome roll bar in tray with 4x4" spotties and nice re dipped chrome bumpers and anything else on the body thats chrome
and a highly detailed engine bay braided hosing and all bits painted to match.

sorry if i have gone on a bit but thats what i'd do if i could get my six foot 5 self in the car in the first place

good luck
we want pictures of the work being done on it once started

i say

- disc brake front end, 120Y struts and castor arms are a bolt in fit, and use the dual system 180B master cylinder.

- 14in RX4 steelies, painted black.

- DUMP THE BITCH INTO THE WEEDS

- one 45DCOE weber, 30/70 cam and a good exhaust. use pre-pollution 120Y headers.

- celica 5spd gearbox.

- oh, and the nice paint bit. that always helps. like that new commodore red.

all up, incl a good paint job, i reckon you could get away with a $5k build.

my best advice would be get the motor youve reco-ed into the car get it warrentable and rego-ed and THEN start doing all those hotup mods to it. Alot of them can be done in the weekend so if your driving it pull it into the garrage each weekend and nock out a job. That way youll be able to enjoy it and make it nicer. Ive got the same problem with my 2door im doing up. its striped and need everything done to it and it looks so huge i dont know where to start so I dont. not a good way to do things but I'll get there eventually.

Quinn's advice is good: use the reconditioned engine, get out there and start DRIVING your ute! You will become more enthused for the next phase of your project.

Everyones suggestions are great. I think you should just think of the things youve always liked/wanted from cars and try to get the balance of that into your ute.

Do one thing at a time and do whatever makes you happy. Ultimatly it's your car- enjoy every aspect, including the build up

I'l go with Quinn on this one. Get it on the road & attend some Datsun events. Have a look at what others have done & see if you like it.

Next, check the downside of that mod or alteration. How hard is it to do? What costs are involved? Is it legal? Is it safe? Is the car still driveable? Can you AFFORD it?
Dumping the suspension in the weeds & fitting a full race V6 is nice, but if it won't clear a low speed bump, & the engine it too hairy to drive through town, then the 2 squillion dollars spent on it is not a good investment.

Look hard at the others, even go for a ride in them, but learn from the mistakes of others, & not your own.
