get a grinder with a cutting disc, put the strut in a vice, carefully cut around it just above the weld then tap it off. Dont cut too deep or you will cut into the strut tube. If you plan on shortening the struts then go for gold and cut the section out under the spring perch.

There are two scenarios:
1. Moving 1200 cups to 180b/200b struts, because you are upgrading brakes. 2. Just cutting the cups off to put adjustable sleeves on. 1. I recommend finding stanza or 240/260z struts and use the cups from those struts. Using the smaller diameter 1200 cups on the 180b sized strut tubes doesn't work well. Using the stanza strut cups is much much neater. 2. I'd try your best to grind out the spot welds, leaving the cup intact, so you have something solid to beat on, to break what's left of the spot welds.

Well the idea was to shorten the 180b struts but it turns out they might be 240k struts and I was going to fit shorter shocks and my coilover kits to them but it turns out they are fitted with short shocks and a spacer in strut so I don't really need to shorten strut body just want to remove cups clean and slide on sleeves. And weld in place
![]() ![]() I want to make these one :)

They mount ok on a larger lathe , parting them off is the cleanest method. But with some patience and practice, you will be wielding the grinder like a master craftsman in no time. Using a cutting disk will give better results.
Just get into it.
