my budget is about 3k, does this sound to low for a 2pac colour change?

also is 1974 interior normally brown or black?

3k is not going to very far at all..

yet alone to strip the ute with a soda blast or bead blast (don't do sand blast pain to clean up and more labor) A soda blast with laybor may set you back a bit more then a $1000.00 depending on where you go and how much they need to pull it back

Thus what is the body like under it and how straight is the body hell you could be up for $5000.00 or more just for panel beating so everything is straight so the paint and car look right.

I made the same mistake i thought i could have my car painted and fixed with soda blast panel beating and paint for 6 grand even with a basic gloss black but it still was going to cost alot. Thats why i had to sell my other 1200 i just didnt have the cash to do both utes.

your going to need more then 3k to get it done unless your willing to put in the hard yards of panel beating and blasting/sanding it yourself then might be lucky to get away with 3k for a 2pac.

The 1974 1200 ute should have been brown interior from what i can find but i may be wrong may be one of the other guys can shed some light but what i found is it should have been brown

thanks for info.

Yea im getting a few cash quotes starting 2moro. I know theres heaps of work in spray painting/panel beating but I cant believe how much it costs! Respraying a datto in my condition surely couldnt take more than 5-10 days full time work. Materials prob 500-1000. 3000-4000 cash should surely cover that!

damn it brown! I hate brown! I thought it was black so I just ordered black carpet :( DAMN IT!
Now I dont know if I should convert the interior back to black or keep original brown!

Why would you keep brown if you hate it?

You're already going to alter the outside from an original colour. I bought a dash pad out of an old sedan that wasn't cracked (a black pad), swapped it over and am happy with it.

then again ... my Ute is half silvia http://datsun1200.com/modules/newbb/v ... hp?topic_id=48840&forum=9

same logic as before. Keeping it totally original for future collect-ability...
I'm torn between restoring it exactly as it was. Respray original white (or possibly another orig colour)+ keep brown interior.
vs

Make custom the way I like. My own external colour with black interior

Brown is not too bad - my mate was thinking the same thing doing his datsun 720 as a mini truck he wanted to keep the original but didnt know what to do he has put alot into the car nearly up to $70,000.00 on the build with a 1UZ v8 and all the paint and what not,
But back on the subject he has taken his brown interior and given it a real retro look with a tuck and roll interior with brown and a lime green stitching by bitch 'n stichin canberra and i really like the out come of the interior its still old school but with a bit of a twist and looks increadable

greendog,
thats my fav colour for 1200 datos mate.Perfect.i wonder how many utes came in mustard originally as mostly coupes are the ones that came many in that colour.

bejj,

just my opinion, best to respray original datsun colours if you think you will want to resale later. And better yet the colour code on ur utes engine bay "plate".Some people like to see matching engine numbers and matching colours to the plate.Nothing wrong with a white ute mate.

and as already advised have the coin to do one properly and professionally the first time.chances are if bare metal strip, will come across some rust which will also need repair.

at the end of the day,its your car so paint what you want.

and has anyone used car vinyl car wraps.might be a good option and if can afford, could change colour of your car yearly etc or carbon vinyl certain parts of car..also protects the paint under the vinyl wrap
i.e

cheers

@ greendog. yea that does look mint!

Thanks a12
Yea will resale down the line but want to use it for a while and have fun first. Definitely not doing all this to try to sell straight away and make money. The paint code sticker thing normally near the radiator I'm told doesnt exist anymore in my car. Just rego papers say white.

Back to the interior I'm really confused as to whether it was originally brown or black.
In my car the things that are in black:
- Dash & glovebox
- Seat belt clips and belt material
- Steering column cover
- Plasic on window winder.
- Bits of whats left of the possibly original carpet

In my car the things that are brown:
- Door trims and door handle

My dash & cluster looks like this except my steering wheel was brown :-S

Please correct me if I'm wrong but from Wiki "Interior Colour" it says, "71-77 Sunny Truck Black"

78-85 = brown
Looks like the brown I have in my interior was added from the later model trucks

Great times!
