hey i was wondering if anyone can help me,
i have a charge light problem, i have bought a new regulator and i have had my alternator tested and it came back ok however the charge light still comes on and when i rev it the light shines brighter i have no idea what to do if anyone can help me it would be much appciated

Is your alternator charging properly? Stick a multimeter on the battery whilst the car is running, it should show 13-14v and when off around the 12 mark (or at least a bit lower). If it's charging then the problem lies in the light wiring. Could be connected to the wrong terminal on the alternator? Would have to check a wiring diagram to see how it is wired normally.

I am having a similar problem, light all of a sudden came on.
tested across the battery, getting 14volts
12.5 when off

The dash lamp is controlled by the regulator.

13-14V when running above idle is good charging voltage.

Since your voltage is correct, the regulator is probably the culprit.

It could also be as simple as a blown fuse.

or a loose wire.

I had a temp gauge problem that I eliminated at least 6 wild possible causes until I found that the wire was loose

How could it be a fuse or loose wire? Wouldn't that cause it not to charge, or not to light up?

After a quick look at a 1200 wiring diagram, (assuming most models are wired similair) it would be either the 12v regulator or a wire/plug somewhere shorting the positive wire to the light to another voltage. Being that the light gets brighter with rpm, I would suspect the regulator isnt working. A good regulator shouldnt change much in voltage regardless of rpm, because its "regulating". Measure your battery voltage whilst changing rpm, if its going up and down from around 12-14 volts the regulator isnt doing its job. It may be working as you said, but that means your wiring is wrong and its not working in the vehicle.

The chaging system is fused through the fuse box, if blown it will cause dash lights.
Also, has the alternator been changed recently?, I know that it's a remote possability,
but I have seen where an external regulator alternator was replaced with an intenal regulator unit. Easy mistake to make as they do look very similar.
