Replace Sump Gasket

Hi Guys,
I appear to have a leak from around my sump gasket. I have bought a new one but am wondering what are the rubber half circle shaped rings for? as seen here: http://datsun1200.com/modules/mediawiki/index.php?title=Oil_pan Do I apply sealant to them? my service manual doesn't mention anything about re-fitting one.. just to remove 16 screws to remove the sump.. just wondering what gasket goo people would suggest? (if any i know the wiki said none on the cork parts of the gasket but i was wondering if that is correct? Cheers, Tom

The half-rounds are for the ends of the sump
Quote: a dab of RTV sealer on the ends where the half-round gaskets meet the rail-sides. Do not put very much on

Thank you! I just can't picture which side of the round circle needs the goo..
is it where the yellowy arrows are or all around the outer diameter or all around the inner diameter? Attach file: gasket.gif (4.17 KB)![]()

Not on the sides, but "on the ends" -- where the half-round gaskets meet the rail-sides.

Would you happen to have any pics as my manual has nothing at all.
Cheers, Tom

You should get a Datsun factory service manual, it has a photo.
It does not go on *any* part of the round area. It goes on the flat part where the half-rounds meet the side rails. Where the black rubber pieces meet the cork pieces. The block has a step-down right there. Put a touch of RTV in the steps.
