Rear discs on 1200 ute
cds
Posted on: 2004/4/7 3:19
I'm new to the Datto 1200 world so please excuse my ignorance if I'm asking obvious questions.
Do TRX Bluebird rear discs fit the 1200 ute. If not, what is the recommended? Thanks.

they fit, Ive got them on my ute, but you have play with the parkbrake and the brake lines to get them to fit right. And 13inch wheels wont fit over the calipers on them.
If you dont have bigger brakes up front, youll have some issues with your brake bias too- when i first did my conversion, the back locked up before the front and my engineer wouldnt give me a certificate on them. So my advice is to beef up the whole sysem at the same time- It makes a huge difference when you start driving it again. -John

Thanks for the info. What discs did you run on the front?. We were jut going to run 120Y discs but maybe there's a better way to go??.

Go for a whole bluebird front strut swap.

I had 120y discs up front to begin with, then went for stanza struts after the back was locking up too quick...
Due to the time it took to get the front struts in, i installed a brake bias controller to fix the problem quick. Now its just another thing i can play with & adjust in the ute. ![]()

A brake bias controller is not just a quick fix ... they were used in millions of cars by auto manufacturers. So it is legitimate way of resolving the problem.

Astro_Boy, did u use a brake booster when u had the 120Y struts and discs? Or did u run them unboosted?

i dont think u need a booster till you have 4 wheel disc
i have the bluebird discs in the rear of my road car and on the front (stanza struts) i have pintara vented discs and hi-lux 4 spot calipers, with this i use the sunny booster and have quite good pedal feel, i have bad brake bias for road, the rear locks up first (great for dirt), im waiting for the right volvo to be in a nearby wrecker that comes with an adjustable brake bias valve, on my rallycar i have stanza strut and brake up front with vanette drums on the back (bigger than 1200 drum), it has good bias and doesnt require a booster

The brakes are A ok without a booster... Ive got disks all round and its fine.
Probably wouldnt be a bad idea to get one though. John

Thanks fellas.....it's good to hear what the go is from ppl who have actually done the swap....im in the process of cleaning up a set of 120y struts now, but all the mechanics round town tell me that i 'have to have' a brake booster or else brakes won't work properly.....shows what they know about modding dattos
