haha.. thought id get him to fix the brakes and I can supervise

lesson 1: how brakes work... it's not just a pedal that you press.

when you put stanza front in did you change master cylinder or proportioning valve
is it single or twin master cylinder

when you go from drums to disc front should change master to a disc drum master

Yeah I have passed a few 1200's in NSW both pink slip and blue slips with no booster. You got it blue slipped without one. Why would you need one for a pink slip when there less thorough on them (apparently).

Sorry orange-1200 you can't "just push the pedal harder" have you ever watched the pink slip brake test ? Why do you think the brake test machine has a load cell on the pedal when the test is done? Do I need to explain that there are strict limits of pedal effort verses brake efficiency , if your car doesn't fall in the window of these limits you don't get your pink slip , no excuses , fix the brakes. The "it'll be right attitude" of the younger generation is what makes it hard for all who have a modified vehicles .

The car originally had drum/drum.

I overhauled the mast previousyr, and removed the residual valve before running the disc front. I noticed I have alloy Girlock callipers... are these std stanza. or have i mismatched my braking components.

Today I was looking in a disc/drum master and noticed it has 2 rubber/spring residual valves.

so I put one in the front circuit of the master to preload a little, bled the brakes and am yet to take it for a test drive.

it does preload the front brakes a little, but not enough to drag I think. pedal still feels like it has a lot of travel.. despite bleeding.. Does this sound right or should I have a good solid pedal.

Now the alternator seems to be playing up and I decided to change the ball joints, rod ends and drag link.. just because Im a fussy bastard and I want the car to be safe.

Wards, yes you are right, pedal effort versus stopping power.. I hope it passes next round.

Orange 1200 - yes I also adjusted my rear drums

Get someone with a CA18det ute to take him around a racetrack. Scare him bad, but give him the bug at the same time.

some of the valves have grooves down the side to suit disc setups, the drum ones dont have this and essentially seal completely

i had all sorts of grief with my brakes recently and the only way it would not bind was to remove both valves completely

if there is just too much travel in the pedal after bleeding it's likely the drum brake adjustment, you should be alright now

thanks for the advice rallycar, will let you know how I get on.

I just gave the steering a freshen up yesterday, new tie rod ends, drag link and ball joints.

Good idea A14 Force, I haven't been in a CA18det powered ute... I reckon it would be nice.

Once the kid's off his P's Im thinking of dropping a CA18 in.

Cheers

Ed

Yes I've seen the brake test be performed and I understand the pressure etc. I just done the pink slip course and I'll be getting my ticket shortly I've done a few brake tests in my own cars just to get the hang of it and yea.
