If you have time development is free on your watch but really the sheer size of an R200 would suffice with 6000 series alum just use
many fins for strength and cooling, through bolts and smaller sump
like on the alfa one in the pics.
Lsd options are getting limited and Id pay well for a billet casing
as attaining R200 lsds is easy and cheap compared to H series LSDs.

ok found out theres 20 mm difference in the crown wheel and because of that the case is not as tall as the r200

R180 lsd are hard to come by in a stumpy nose and never seen them actually but the long nose R180 are subeys Rex mainly but theres aftermarket LSDs for cheap by OBX...

http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_nkw=o ... mazda+miata+lsd&_osacat=0

you can win many hearts by doing an alloy MX5 lsd casing also which have OBX lsds also available and perhaps a good business choice....

If you think the subey market is worthwhile go for it the long nose r180 is what you can do but will need reinforcing fins and ribs, larger billet piece to start with as there arent any short nose ones I know of, while the late r200 are all short nose.
The R180 long nose is a nice diff and easier to fit over the r200 and will suit 240 260z enthusiasts also which is a decent market.

Dont try and make a case for both just do a nicely finned r180 then youll have subey, Z, 1600, 180 and 200SSS and even perhaps miata and other kit car builders after them as atm there is nothing to replace the all alloy sierra 7.5 inch IRS diffs which where all dried out from the sierra cosworths in the 80s and used in every lightweight car project and racer for the last 30 years.

Go for it R180 it is!

I was a bit late on the post but dont worry about the r200 you are right with sticking with what came easily the R180.

You could also do an alloy turbo A series manifold out of billet to be use for casting into iron similar to the suzuki gti one, there will be interested parties who prefer them over tube ones that dont flow well. Ill be in for a couple, Im sure theres another dozen that would jump on them too, and doing out of cast you can do smaller runs or batches in sandcasting saving money.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Turbo-Exhaust ... ts_SM&hash=item1e6d0498fa

you can pair the turbo manifold with something like these which could be used for carbs or add a plenum for turbo
http://blogs.yahoo.co.jp/hugo3058jp/29185558.html

I think these would be better but more angled up to clear turbo manifold and peeps can use 44mm downdraft bike carbs.

vacuum can be made between the 2 sep pieces by brass taps and hosing to avoid billet pieces been too big to start with.

You can do a flange plate to suit these manifolds (ive poorly illustrated in 5 mins) and then any plenum from other cars can be welded up on top of the 2 hole flange with tapered holes to match the mini manifolds.
