Alrighty then Mick, I'll have to take that massive pilgrimage over to your old shed. Mind you, a bloke could fall over in there and never be found... Or is that your plan? Meniacle laugh. Meniacle laugh.

Bump - saturday night re-discussion topic

Revived thread as this is what works with the 71 series input shaft
been a tad longer all thats needed is grinding 71c bell for the
starter motor fitment providing a custom made flywheel can have the
ring gear relocated forward of the 71 series box?

Bellhousing would have to be the smaller CA series or bigger L series
if easier to adapt the dowelling and taping requried

the pics are a sample of the many conversions done using thick adaptor plates
where the starter area is grinded on the bell for fitment and the flywheel
should be ok providing there is enough starter teeth engagement.
Some extra width compensation can be gained from not using the factory spacer
plate and making sure the inside of the starter die has enough clearance all
around to allow the flywheel to sit nicely within the plate and allow the
starter to mesh well with it.

One question that jumps out at me is, will there be enough room between the block and flywheel to fit this adapter plate?
I haven't got a motor here with a flywheel attached, but how much clearance is there between the two? It would be possible to space the flywheel off if need be, but that might further aggrovate the already problematic A series flywheel attachment issues......

Often with adapter plates they cut the center out so it doesn't affect the flywheel. I have an engine swap book from 1964 with similar photos of dozens of adapter plates. The book tells how align it properly.
