I have a lot of old email addresses in my book. When I started receiving a few 'returned emails' because of bad/nonexistant addresses, I suspected something was wrong. That Spybot program got rid of a sh1tload of adware and everything seems to be ok now. My internet connection seems a lot faster, too.

Thought I'd post a reply here as opposed to starting a new thread ....

I've got a few emails (allegedly) from turbophile.com, subject: "unknown"

The message asks "is this you?" and there is an attachment: bill.zip (which I've never opened)

Now, I've visitied turbophile.com, but I never gave them my email, and my email on datsun1200.com has a "REMOVETHIS" in it, so my guess is it's a malicious individual rather than a bot.

(Unless it is a genuine email from turbophile?)

Almost for sure, those messages are NOT coming from the person the "From:" line says ... it doesn't mean that your or the sender has a virus.

See the recent discussion: sx510@datsun.com

I got mail like that, and found out somehow also mail is delivered to others aparently from my address, I contacted yahoo, MSN, etc, and they said viruses and mean people too find ways to send crap. I received mail even from known members of this club, and other places I never corresponded with, many responses, etc, only to see that upon opening their attachment, the comp sec system says, "virus, watch out". I do not think these members did in fact send me any of that crap, I think is that problem, info about addresses is open to hackers, and I think they use that disguise to expand/introduce viruses. Some people, apparently have fun doing harm on others, sick, but true.
When ever you receive something from an unknown source, simply erase it or check out the attachment, the PC will tell you before getting into it if there is a virus or anything. It is the problem with technology, there is no way to enforce decency, lots of idiots around. Use the protection against viruses. From what I've seen, somebody could send messages as if these messages came out from YOUR address, when in fact you never sent anything. All messages have a origin information, so, even if a message appears as coming out of a address, the origin of such message can tell if in fact it came out of such address, or, in fact, it is a disguise/impostor.
Protect yourselves, if an attachment says"virus alert" delete it, no way out, never open it.
Later.

Most times the virus gets into a computer and sends e-mails without the owner knowing so that is why they say WTF

If anyone gets an email from me without a detailed description, I would expect them to delete it and I would do the same to one that I receive.

I just got this email. Does anybody else want in on this sure thing, the deal of a lifetime?

Date: Sat, 22 May 2004 16:43:44 +0200 (CEST)
From: "Mr.Frank Donney" <savelife_f6@yahoo.se> Add to Address Book
Subject: Good Day From: Mr.Frank Donney !!!!!!!!
To: savelife_f6@yahoo.se

No 71 Eletrnal Aveune City
johannesburg South Africa,

(VERY URGENT PROPOSAL)

My name is Mr. Frank Donney, I work in the International operation department in a Local Bank here in South Africa. On a routine nspection I discovered a dormant domiciliary account with a Balance of $36,000,000 (Thirty Six Million USD) on further discreet investigation, I also discovered that the account holder has long since passed away (dead) leaving no beneficiary to the account. The bank will approve this money to any foreigner because the former operator of the a/c is a foreigner and from Iraq in particular and I am certainly sure that he is dead, and nobody will come again for the claim of this money A foreigner can only claim this money with legal claims to the account Holder; therefore I need your cooperation in this transaction.

I will provide the necessary information needed in order to claim this money, But you will need to open an account where this can be ransferred. If interested send your private Telephone No. And Fax number including full details of the account to be used for the Deposit I wish for utmost confidentiality in handling this transaction as my job and the future of my family would be jeopardized if it were breached.

The informations will be as follows.

Bank Name.........
Bank Address........
A/C Name.............
A/C Number..............
Swift Code No..............
Routing Number................

I want to assure you that the transaction is without risk if due process is followed accordingly. Finally, I will give you 25% for your corporation.

Call me immediately on any of the following nos:

+870-763432260
+871-763432260
+874-763432260

When calling do not add South African country code beacuse it's a satelite phone only add your country dial out code and dial direct.

I look forward to a favorable response from you
through email and your call as well.

Sincerely & Respectfully yours,
Mr. Frank Donney.

H
