#1 Biggest tyre width with leaf...
RHiSC Posted on: 2004/4/19 3:14
Just wanting to know whats the biggest tyre width you can fit on a 1200 coupe with leafs? i understand the leafs are what prevents the tyres from sitting in more... so i guess the next limiting factor are the guards. generally how much can you 'pump' the guards?

I fitted 205/60/14 tires under the back of my Sedan.

I rolled the lip of rear guards, and got custom offset wheels to maximise the tirewidth under the guard.

So if you pump the guards out at the rear, you could fit 215s or 235s also under there also. But if you are only going to roll the lip of the guards, then 205 is probably the biggest.

Yeah, what Chris said, 205's are right on the limit.

If you are willing to do some more involved work (depending on how keen you are to fit wider wheels) you can do what I did and shorten the diff accordingly and also make some custom brackets to move the leaf spring assembly in 2 inches or so. This, however, would need to be engineered, but shouldn't be a problem if done correctly.
