Thanks DD I have a mid mounted distributor on my engine at the moment so I guess it makes the swap easier!

Would you happen to have a part number for a coil that would suit if I wanted to remove my resistor?

would this coil be the right 12v no ballast resistor high output coil?
Bosch HEC715

Yes, also need the Rotor. You can buy Cap, Rotor and Coil in Australia. Cap & Rotor is the same as points distributor late 70s/early 80s for nearly all Datsuns. Coil from early Pulsar will work.

Cap & rotor set: Bosch 06054
Cap: Bosch 03107
Rotor: Bosch 04095
Coil: Bosch 00200, Nissan 22433-H7280, Hanshin CIT-30, Hitachi STC-30

I would not use Bosch HEC715, it draws more current than the specified high-energy Bosch 00200 coil.

And keep in mind that sometimes you get a bad part from the parts store, but they do guarantee returns.
