Will an a12 auto gearbox pattern be the same as an a14 or a15's engine pattern?
Will it be strong enough???

Yes, the A12 bellhousing pattern is the same as the A14 and A15.
All these engines use the JATCO 3N71A, right?

Yes it is strong enough - they are a very rugged box and were used behind the A12 and A15 Sunny's in NZ. I have both models and was happy to find the trans is based on the C4.
Info from rgrinder on earlier post : early A series up to 1973 if I remember correctly used an automtic trans made by Borg Warner, then Nissan switched to one made by JATCO, stands for Japanese Automatic Transmission COmpany. JATCO was a joint venture between Nissan and Mazda, both owning 50%. the Borg warner unit and the JATCO unit were both 3 speeds, out of the 2 the JATCO is a much better trans. the Borg units would self destruct as you drove them, where as the JATCO unit was/is very similar to a Ford C4 and almost bullit proof, the only thing that seems to go wrong with them is that the vacuum modulator diaphram ruptures and ATF gets sucked into the intake manifold, causing them to not shift right and the engine to billow clouds of oil smoke. as far as I know of, there was not a 4 speed auto available for the A series. 4 speed autos didn't show up until the mid 1980's, by then Nissan had stopped using the A series in any great numbers to make it profitable to do the design and engineering.

If i remember rightly, the Auto in my mother in laws '69 Datsun 1000 was a JATCO, & i believe that Aussie 1200's were the same.
Mother in law? Yeah, back in the '80's between my wife, her mother, & me, we had a '68 Datsun 1000 two door, a '68 four door, a '69 four door, & a '73 Datsun 1200 ute, all at the same time. We loved out little Datsuns. Still do.

Yes, P510s used Borg Warners, then switched to JATCO. My '69 P510 1600 wagon had a two-speed automatic! But 1200s used JATCO 3N71x to start with.

Yeah, hurry up and put it in your car..if it self destructs..then you'll know. I seriously don't think gearbox strength will be a problem for you. Most Autos are way tougher (and lots heavier) than their manual G/B counterparts. Get it in..and get croooozin. You can view topic.
