you can buy barrel halves from US, Japan and Europe.
I looked into it when I thought about widening my steelies,
Ended up getting a guy to do it.
If you can find a reputable wheel widener, he should have links to getting you new barrels for them.

what width are you going for? 3-4" of dish is quite a wide rim, that would be an 8j.
rims of that size are still reasonable to perchance from Japan off yahoo auctions.

as someone whos been thru the rim widening game before it goes something along these lines.

purchase narrow rims... say 300 set.
purchase new rim outers - 150 a rim.
get your rims split (SSR mesh are all welded down the centre) - 10 each
get the spigot of the barrel machined to suit the SSR centre - 10 each

then if you get them welded back together, need to be polished etc... extra money there

min spend is around 1k. unless you are or have a mate who is a machinist.

These are volk mesh 13x7&8j - these could cost you as little as 800 into aus.

Thanks guys, so the terminology is barrels & faces?

I have a set of 13 SSR's similar to what ddgonzal showed. I have flipped the faces (or the barrels depending on how you look at it) and created some nice dish but excessive negative offset. I can't afford super wide rims and tyres at the moment so I'm just checking to see if it's okay to run them reversed like I have done.

That is not a radical amount of negative offset -- except that Datsun 1200 has +30 positive offset stock.

I haven't heard of anyone flipping the faces. But if the flange is symmetrical I can't see how it would hurt.

So the term 'reverse mesh' is nothing to do with what I've done but instead a description of the pattern?

I prefer dish and track without the extremely high cost of super wide wheels. Plus the rubber is difficult to find.

To remove the centres I pressed them out and to install them I froze them and then refitted them.
