Yes, my radiator ran very hot when it was 40C (104F) and doing 110 kph (touching the hot line). It overheated if I went faster, say 120 kph then it went over the line and started venting coolant.

That was with A14 engine and stock A12 single-core radiator.

Obviously the A14/A15 needs a larger radiator. But it doesn't need an N14-sized radiator.

hrmmm so you reckon not to stress too much till it reaches the hot line? hasnt quite made it there yet, have only taken it for a few spins around the block tho.

back in the day on my old A15 i ran a gemini radiator and took the thermostat out... wonder if i should pull this one out.

if you can find it, try B310 radiator. i've had good experience with those, friends too. very mild A15 using B310 radiator no problem. Malaysia is hot all year round. very hot.

At 4/5 of the gauge, I'd put a properly sized radiator in (good A15 or L16 radiator). Especially if it happens regularly.

But it won't hurt the engine. Engine can run 200,000 miles at 220 degrees if the cap is good and coolant doesn't leak out. As long as it does not overheat ... and you might not notice the gauge when it does since it is so close to the hot line.

A steady temperature is better for power, fuel economy and state of tune, which is why later JDM and USA engines have a 120-degree regulated air cleaner. If you have a plain air cleaner the tune will vary with air temperature. Race engines are rejetted depending on temperature.

Just went for an hour + drive in traffic, getting way too hot, touching the hot line, having to pour water over the radiator to cool the bastard down. Running like a pig when its hot.

Sooo is the n15 radiator everyone running the one with the small outlets or the large ones?

Cheers

Also keep in mind that N15 radiators come in small and large cores:

From: 320 x 535 x 16 mm
To: 320 x 647 x 32 mm

The smallest N15 radiator is used with GA16DE engine. The largest N15 radiator is for Diesel and SR20DET.

The stock A12 radiator core size is 330 mm x 344 mm x 32 mm, so you will probably have to cut the body sheet metal core support and use the stock N15 fans to make the N15 radiators work correctly with a 1.5 liter engine.

N15 radiators come in different flavors including core sizes, different thicknesses, and either 28mm or 35mm inlet/outlets.

Radiator Upgrades has a bunch of information on it. Click each photo to get additional details.

Thanks bud, gonna buy the crv and camry hoses first, then pick a radiator after that, doubt ill fit two stock fans but two 14" fans should cool it and with a decent thermostat snd fan controller it should work fine and i can do skids for weeks.

I noticed that my warm a14 was getting hot after idling for 15 mins. So I just bought an eBay 3 core aluminium one. I'll let you know how it goes.
