I still believe the lz is not worth the effort. Mark got his normal l20b did efi and turbo on that and had great power on tap in his 180B. Simon knows this car too I think.

Turbo L series or just go z18.

Otherwise A series turbo will be fine.

One thing I believe and I spoke to Simon with is I don't care about power figures or totals. Drive ability tune and torque curve more important as these put a smile on your face.

On simons dyno mine only put out 50kw I think but it outs smile on my dial, now with Cam feels more easily need a tune again to check.

Depends if you want to chase figures or chase fun. From what you write I think you want more smiles less figures.

Hang on ruredi: what your saying is it's cheaper to engineer a 1600 than a 2 litre ?? Doesnt power to weight come into it ? So your saying I can stuff a SR16 into it cheaper than L20 motor ?? So on that LZ Hybrid, I can get a old L14 block and do a hybrid even cheaper ?? Or if you could find 1, an L13 and not engineer at all !!

Yeah your right.

I guess I really need to ride in a worked A series putting out the kind of power I'm talking about to really make up my mind.

Simon seems the resident A series expert and I've met him in person and he surely doesn't seem like the type of guy that doesn't give it to you straight.

Hey mate,

No I never said that I wouldn't have to engineer the car with an LZ Hybrid.

In Victoria you cannot engineer/register anything bigger than a 1.8 turbo these days (without great difficulty and/or money). The idea of putting an L20B crank is to stroke it out to a 2L but still be able to engineer and register.

Using the L16 block keeps weight down and keeps the L16 engine number for ease of engineering.

Nickmitty, no need for "O" rings for that sort of power.

Just new standard cast pistons and a set of moly rings, standard rods and crank.

#OOPS#s sake dude, forget engineering, you are in Victoria, take advantage of club registration.

Sikyne's setup sounds like the hot tip, that frankenstine L16 20z abortion sounds like noyhing but a nightmare. d has all these wonderful stupid oddball out of the square over engineered rediculas backyard ideas but rarely follows through with any with real results.

dont abuse the club permit scheme, abuse can get you into stife and the club loose its vic roads accreditation. that means the whole club looses their permits! in the long run that means the scheme will get shut down to the old days where it was club events only, not log books.

Even on club permit it is supposed to go get signed off by only one engineer in the scheemme. its nto a free for all mod fest.

At least i have a legit engineeres cert so if people do stuff it up, i can go get full rego again.

There r a few A series experts here, Simon especially in boosted A series, record holder at some tracks along with another 2 Finns that have world records with A series turbo engines, but as far as the help you are going to get to do it right for a very reasonable price you cant go wrong with his wisdom and enthusiasm.

Ive had ideas & problems that Simon has just clarified/solved instantly when put to him & cannot thank him enough for his tweaks on my projects. There arent many people that do that these days he is methodical & honest.

Nothing new about an LZET, Andrew Morrow, Ryan Dickson and others run them with FCW L cranks At the time I was after no pollution, easy 5 speeds, low height & crossflow head for a little more room side to side. Nothing too out of the ordinary I thought. HOWEVER as soon as Simon stepped up proving an A12 can be an incredible force when done properly (few have done proper turbo A series turbos) as he has but keeping most of it stock my LZet plans went totally south, I felt like the answer was staring at me the whole time... cheap, light, reliable and powerful. I was even considering a twin cam A series after seen his side project but what he managed from a stocker blew most of us away even surely himself must have been a little chuffed on how well it performed, there where disbelievers at that stage but I remember lifting the lil A12 into his bay & witnessing the build before going in. Cheap and stock inside but externally purposeful he calculated most of it with lots of research and plenty of sweat.

The A12 efi turbo is a better bet in costs and weight while the LZet will be heavier needs new mounts crossmember mods along with time spent lining it all up which is no mean feat unless you get mates rates which Simon charges anyway yet still alot of work and messing around to get it all right.

For 150hp atw for under 5k efi A12 turbo is the winner no questions about it. Replace the stock A12 for another donk like the L series, CA or SR its another ball game & unless you can do some yourself will cost more than 5 grand.

DatsunBloke why sheepishly bleat your try hard big port 4age stereotype spasm? Your backdoor effort ended up for sale un-engineered. Good intended Clubs want less of that butch short sighted mentality just decent car enthusiasts.
