alright, picked up my datto 120Y this morning, spent the rest of the day getting it roadworthied and rego'd.. few dints here and there, nothing major tho

nice and smooth driving at all speeds i was doing.. found a few problems tho..

for my lights, when i pull it once, it puts it on low beams, pull it again and i get highbeams......... i have no normal lights, so i have been driving everywhere on highbeams... ummm...

no offence to other stock datsun 120Y owners, but from about 0-60 k\h it couldnt pull the skin of a custard, but once i hit bout 60 it jus takes off all the way to 160 (went faster but the speedo stops at 160 :/ )

umm, for my next moves, gonna look for probly and a14 engine out ther if i can or something bigger, but still cheap enough for a pov like me.. eventually gonna strip it down and get a paint job, but that will be for the holidays (i need the car for tafe) and other little things i will do to get it ready for it, like getting parts and crap i want to try before this christmas.....

i wanna REALLY TRY and get this datto sooped up and ready to be really proud of her by christmas so if anyone can help me (in brisbane) with anything really, or jus catch up and give me some info, (meet somewhere and i shout you to lunch for info) it would be really appreciated...

P.S. gonna take heaps of photos during all this as i hate it when you only see like 5 pics of someones project..

P.P.S Most of my friends laughed at my datto, she may be old and wrinkled but still i am proud of her, not a bad car for 26 yrs old

Pull the light switch one notch & move the dip switch stalk. In one position it will give you park lights, & in the other it will give you headlights, but i forget which beam.

Pull to the second notch & you can select either beam with the dip switch stalk.

Bizzare, but you will get accustomed to it. See if you can get an owners manual to find out all it's little secrets.

The steering wheel stalk works like this:

Push forward for high beams
Pull back for normal beams

Pull dash knob halfway out for running lights
Pull dash knob all the way out for headlights (plus running lights)

the dip swith stalk they're talking about is the indicator stalk.

with the headlight switch pulled out one notch, push the indicator stalk forward for park lights, and back for low beam.

Doing the same thing with the headlight switch pulled all the way out will give you low beam with the indicator stalk towards you and high beam if you push the indicator stalk forward.

I wonder how many other 1200/120Y owner knew about the dash light dimmer though...

Seems to me there is still a problem there cause one click out gives low beam (indicates the lever is in the back position),
two clicks out gives high beam (indicates the lever is in the foward position)
Maybe someone else couldn't understand it and wired it up different. check at the back of the switch for anything that looks dodgy.

Just my 2 cents worth

ahh sweet got it figured now... and yeah it was the indicator switch, had to push and pull it to change between high and normal beams, thanks all who helped...

and yes ther is a dashboard dimmer, where you pull the plug to turn your lights on, when it is pulled, swith it (ie: turn it)

Yeh turn the knob to the left and the light on the dash dim. and your wiring sound a bit miffed check it hasn't been altered cos i was not passed by the pits when i took my 120 over because he said the wiring was wrong, but wasn't man enough to look at the book in the glovebox that explains it.
but i showed him, i took it to another pits
