What would the benefit of running an a12 head with double valve springs on an a14 block?

I run a round port head on my A14 with twin 35mm side draft carbs and it has a lot of down low power, it pumps pretty hard out of corners and I prefer it to my oval port twin 40 A15. I actually think it goes considerably harder.
Certainly worthwhile. I can help you out with some carbs too, brand new side draft webers, brand new linkages and brand new manifold. Send me a PM if you like.

I purchased an a14 motor it came with this early model head that was done up in 09. Has double valve springs and that's about it. Valves and ports are still standard a12. Did you hone out your ports? And also did you go bigger valves?

Negative, left it as is. Any of that further work would bring more power, but after doing that work you may as well go for a stock H89.

True. So you just have a stock a12 head on your a14?

Yessir. The induction is a major contributor though, what are you running?

The benefit of round port is that it increases the air velocity earlier on co pared to a head with bigger ports, the result is better fuel economy, better down low power and faster acceleration.
If you supply the 1400cc's through a 32/36 or 32mm primary and 36mm secondary, the engine is 'sharing' the cross sectional area of a 32 and 36mm throat. Put twin cabs on and each cylinder has its own opening of 32mm (suggested throat size) so 128mm of opening all up compared to 66mm on the 32/36. Here is my engine, the bore spacing of the carbs is narrower, essentially better flow path than the DCOE , DHLA alternatives. You can view topic.
