Your ideas of upgrading to the SR20DET sounds like a pretty ambitious project & it should be one slick car when finished, but for now, taking into account your difficulty in working the light switch, & in finding dip switch, as well as the idle adjusting screws, permit me to suggest that you secure a Gregories service & repair manual for your car, & you use it to become quite familiar with what you have already, BEFORE launching into a major re-engining project.
Even a stock 120Y can provide a great deal of satisfaction if you study the manual & tune up the whole car to perfection. The satisfaction gained from having the engine running sweetly, the clutch adjusted right & the brakes functioning just the way they should will be worth much more than the manuals purchase price.
Once you have learned about your car, & enjoyed a few thousand carefree miles, you will be in a better position to be making judgements on what to do next. Just don't be so keen to rush in & take on a project that is obviously, at this time, far beyond your ability.
One step at a time & you won't go wrong.
Chris
P.S. My No.2 son has a stock 120Y & it's a sweet thing. We gave it a full, major service & fixed everything that was in need of attention. It looks & runs sweet with it's 13" mags & will seve him well for a while to come. We all love it.
