Overall Asians in general focus more on looks than we do they have some crazy styling as you know but Japan like some Asian economy superpowers have little space to take on big mechanical projects.

In Oz or USA we have the luxury of bigger garages, yard and space to tinker with different mechanical combos. Over there most people struggle to find space for back up toilet paper rolls.

Easy in Japan to see someone sitting like going to an asian toilet while working on a donk sitting on a tyre while here we have our man caves and more room for datto diseases like dat-hording.

In the end for that money Id rather a sequential 5 speed as "the upgrade" while looking like the 1200 ute in a12grunt avatar

thanks for the compliment D

Most japanese builds ive read on their blogs have spent crazy money to i think "enhancing" their 1200s They would rather spend heaps on the a-series and rest on the driveterain and keep its originality.
Most builds have lsd diffs,56a 5 speeds, type rs watanabes or some other expensive rims. The engines run crazy cams, oil pumps, oil pans, etc etc

This hakosuka ute for instance has heaps of money spent on it just on the body.trust me if they wanted they would have had whatever engine they wanted in the bay.imports are cheap in japan.what makes them expensive to bring over is the compliance, shipping etc etc

In my opinion its more like to keep the "soul" of the car.

and bejj,
i also did think if someone could chop and cut and fit a 1600 front.

and kudos to 09racing for pioneering such stuff for our 1200s.

Ozdat had a few peeps building 620 utes they come up in Gumtree and surely must be a few up in bumbury or other WA countryside. The lines of the 620 are awesome and with a Good L series would be a nice project.
