check w/a local auto parts store for generic fusable link wire, just get the right "blow" amperage - or google it & order it in, theres gotta be some in Indonesia.....

If you could find the whole fusible link assembly from an N12 Pulsar at a wreckers, they have the best 'flexibility', with 2 wires coming off the positive lead,so you can run accessories light electric fans or fuel pumps right from the positive terminal. The fusible link is supposedly a length of wiring that will melt if it's rating is exceeded & is there to stop the electrics if the car is drawing too much power, like an open short circuit.

I just learned that the Fusible Link should be a certain gauge wire. So if you replaced yours with a generic Link, check the gauge size to ensure the wiring is protected.

Nissan spec for Datsun 1200 & Datsun B210: "FUL 0.5mm2" fuse-link.

20 gauge: 0.5 square mm
18 gauge: 0.8 square mm *TOO BIG FOR DATSUN 1200*
16 gauge: 1.0 square mm *TOO BIG FOR DATSUN 1200*
14 gauge: 2.0 square mm *TOO BIG FOR DATSUN 1200*

can anyone explain why it wouldnt be better to have a fuse in there?

Just had my FL fall apart at the plug, and I asked an auto sparky for some 20 gauge fuse wire and he just laughed and said they hadnt had it for years.\

He also suggested a 60 amp fuse to replace it with. What do you guys reckon about the amp range difference?

A regular fuse is rated for delayed action differently. New cars i believe use Circuit Breakers.

If you put a 60A fuse in, it won't blow until 60A are exceeded. Yet the wiring harness is only capable of maybe 45A capacity. Is he really a trained electrician???

Most new cars have 60 or 80 amp main fuses that would be why he said 60 imho.
Go get a curcuit breaker from an auto marine store or even from a falcon or similar at a wreckers. Try find 40 or 50 amp.

Or go to a wrecker and get the fusible link wire.... I found them in xf falcons I think
