um, excuse me if its just me not seeing it through the pics provided but that block doesn't look like an A Series block.
Look at where the alternator is bolted straight to the block, A series doesn't do that - either side. The oil pump and filer is normaly there. Water outlet on front comes out from head, not block and there is an outlet on the front passenger(lhs) of car. Am i wrong, or just not seeing it right?

There could be some simple explanations for that. Take the water inlet, the timing case appears to be removed and the inlet goes straight down around there the pump was while blocking the sideentry point. I can't really explain the alternator unless a bracket has been flipped

Alternator has NO issue & never would be one!, its using original mount and it would never be a problem its the easiest part of any conversion LOL!.
The guy is ingenious, took something cheap home and went from there and beat every japanese tinkerer of the A series from his backyard. Yet still remaining A series heart seems he wanted to be different, took the challenge stuck it to the haters and did it his way. Sealed timing case area and pushrod cavities from oil, sorted water flow issues electric water pump similar front water outlet like on a late suzuki M series block or older Fiat Twin cam, 78 or 79mm mazda bores/slugs, crank snout sorted for belt cog and crank pulley, belt cog mounted instead of timing sprocket on cam and it keeps going. Lemonheads big block had 82mm sleeved with room for 83.5 mm for future rebuilds so 1800cc wouldnt be a bad way to go with the turbo bits from BPT in the 323 GTX or Ford laser TX3. The Mx5 guys are getting over 320hp with boosted b6. http://7kyo.wordpress.com/2013/08/23/ ... ed-into-a-miata-bp-motor/ Kia also uses these engines! just in case peeps cant find a head from Mazda The rest is just ingenious and the options of the A series have taken a big boost!

Ive mainly seen the F series mazda engine in Kias but maybe overlooked the B series as they look almost the same on the rocker cover. Wikipedia should have the info on which models to look out for here.
At the bottom front of the block where the crank pulley meets the sump there is some finicky stuff that needs to happen and water outlet could be piped from the head instead as in this pic shows how the rwd miata/mx5 use the provision which is already there for the rwd or fwd layouts to reduce tooling and casting new heads.

The first pic in black is using the 323 rocker cover as they interchange and RWD with front of the head water inlet while the last 1 in white is a FWD BP in a RWD chassis (notice the water outlet on the opposite side as the one in the datsun on this thread and front of head sealed up like on all fwd applications) also notice it doesnt look too bad with quads and white rocker cover:))

The Z series head which is a modern narrow valve, high port design also available with VVT for the b series. The VE version is for a 1500cc model that produces 96 kws thats 100cc less than the 85 and 100kw 4age.
The Z head is compatible is everyway to the B series block. There is also the last of the wide angle B series donks with VVT, solid lifters like the Z head and 1800cc making 163hp. Same head used for the Australian Bathurst MX5 SP Turbo. That been said it seems to be also possible to use the smaller diameter Z series pulleys and crank cog which will reduce/improve front cover sizing on the B series.
