Hi Guys

I think What DD said is correct, i pulled the starter motor out and checked it,it is turning both side , clockwise it is soft anticlockwise it is little hard but yet it can be turned by finger tips , is my starter motor repairable ? if so what part needs to be replaced please advice me, thanks for great ideas and help

Yes, the drive gear is replaceable. As a test, you may swap the starters from your two Datsuns to see if it makes a difference.

If your starter "whizzes" just after the engine catches, the Overrun clutch is almost for sure bad. If you do not replace it, eventually it will wear so much it free spings, instead of turning the engine.

# With your fingers, turn the small drive gear.
#* It should smoothly turn one direction
#* It should NOT turn at all the other direction, not even a little bit

Hi DD

Thanks, i have tried to Swap it with my b210 earlier ,it did not fit Bolt Pattern is different i will replace the drive gear now i am sure i have the exact problem as you said .this small problem came so far so long that i have never thought, any way for sure i know i have almost replaced all my ignition system and it will have a long go

Hi Guys

i pulled the starter motor this part out

and checked it , but when it is out it is turning only one direction is there any possibility like that for it to behave differently when fixed and removed, what should be checked further more, or shall i refix it in order again and check it back again ?

they are 1974 B210 GX with A12S, and 1978 Hb310 GL with53 A12A, they are different i don'y know how ? they are hitachi but have different casting nos
b210-S114-160D 85Q
b310-s114-253 83H

Yes the starter castings differ slightly. But they use the same bolt pattern.
