Erm...
Someone can correct me if I cam wrong.
But the AY12 was a Nissan race only head which was cast in very very limited numbers, I also think that it was only used in very few race cars. It is not hard to find one in South Africa but everywhere. You maybe able to find one in Japan but you need contacts to direct you to the correct peoples and as user S20 has said on here you need very deep pockets.
Perhaps look at the Mazda cross flow head conversion, there is a big thread on the forum.
That is my two pence worth.

Roller rockers are not recommended.

Lightweight push rods are available from peterzekert.com

HI their, thanx for replying, seems like this is a real good club to belong too,how about sourcing the proper large oval port GX head with the big water jackets under the ports and a good set of webber 40dcoe carbs,I run a 1647cc sub and need it to be able to breathe,we run methanol fuel with a 14-1 compression ratio, carbs are limitted to 34mm chokes 40dcoe webber, head and valve train is free as long as bolt patern is unmodified, here we only find the round port 1200 head and the round chamber A14 heads,I currently use a A15 kidney shape A15 H89 casting head, need to find extra bit of horsepower,LOL

Then fit the Mazda B6 head. See http://datsun1200.com/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?topic_id=61554

The same mazda kits can be used for a sohc 16v and sohc 8v crossflow head that would chomp and AY12.
Rob has an 8v soch mazda head on an A12 that spins to 9000rpm without issues.

D,
kudos to the guru who made the mazda head Frankenstein available to public. That was nothing short of genius. Also kudos to you for sharing the info and making kits available from the genius.

But i think your comparisons to ay12 is pointless.Firstly because of its rarity. Please let me know of anyone u know who has said ay12 head. You keep comparing to a head that very few even know of its potential or even tinkered with one.Would be interesting to see how tuners/engine builders of this day would modify the ay12 head.insane na,turbo, supercharged etc..

Is there anyone who has seen an ay12 head come up for sale i.e yahoo japan etc ??

That being said il take an ay12 head any day over any other head wether gx or other model even if it produces less hp than the others.Im almost certain alot of the japanese enthusiasts would too.

good points but I doubt anyone would bother with AY heads due to their rarity
probably rarer than LZ heads for L series engines, if you find one Im sure
it will look nice in your historic looking beast

Speedway guys upgrade from the A series to run E series and the B6 mazda engine
is an upgrade to their previous E series engines similar to the E series nissan
but squarer bore and stroke. The E series nissan engines are preferred by speedway
over the A series and the Mazda E series is so similar that even the e15et turbo
Nissan engine looks like the Mazda e5t turbo engine

D,
Im sure a ts cup racer/owner in jap would outbid me if an ay12 ever came up for sale.Probably a sin if one ever leaves japan lol.

I think only in japan do they embrace their a-series potential. They spend ridiculous amount of mods to their a-series that very few in oz do.Yes they might be slower than say ca18det but the fun factor and simplicity of old engines is hard to beat.

Also a cars' engine is like its soul.I happen to tend to embrace original worked motors.but definately respect and admire other engine combos.

i.e if i had a 240z, i would take the s20 engine over rb20det, rb25det, rb26dett simply coz they were the epitome of 240zgs.same as ay12 and lzs were to sunnies.but at the same time admire other engines and effort that went into their builds.

seen on american shows same model cars but one with very modified modern engine and yet the ones with original stock or original worked motors sell for way more.

I think 20 years from now they will be less a-series running 1200s than sr/ca/fj etc 1200s.

Even so the mazda head is genius and hopefully if i do get time in the future, would love to try one.Atleast the mazda head is readily available and a-series owners don't have to dream about a crossflow engine head anymore ;)

I agree, Im off the CA18 passion and loving the A series again thanks to the Mazda head conversion
When I have time in Summer I hope I can get the ca18de pistons into an early sleeved A12 :)

The offset sleeving will suit the even bores spacing of the Mazda head allowing me to
be able to sleeve this thing to such a great size. Lemonhead went 82mm and had room for
84mm although not for an A series head more for the GA16de head he was planning along with
E16 crankshaft. I will be happy with the A14 crankshaft for 1666cc in the little A12 block.
