#1 Wheel scrub front lower guard
loosekid Posted on: 2014/7/18 1:01
Hey boy's i have terrible scrub on the front guard lower now i want to run these wheels no matter what really..

So what im asking is do we have any info in the wiki (as i cant find any) or can someone help or provide me information regarding cutting the front bottom corner out of the front guards for clearance when turning.

I know alot of people have done this as its needed for TRX wheels and other things but whats the best way about getting this done so i can run my wheels without bolt on flares

just cut the offending bit of metal away. It's normally just the lower corner that needs to be cut. Mark out where you are going to cut with tape to form a nice smooth curve from the wheelarch down and you will hardly even notice it has been cut.

I'm no panel beater and my paint jobs are never really anything to worry about. So there's probably better ways but this is what I've done in the past:
Jigsaw: Tape the panel to protect against scratching and jigsaw it. Tape the base of the jigsaw too. It can still chip paint though, and if the panel isn't held firmly it can bite and get the panel wobbling.
Grinder: a 1mm cuting disc (for stainless) can make the cut without too much heat and melting of the paint on the cut edge if you're good with a grinder and its a gentle curve.

Not sure which method I used on this years ago after painting it - it would have been 20 yrs ago now! and I've cut so many bits and pieces off so many cars it's hard to remember lol

Cheers mate guess best thing to do is just grow some balls template it properly take the guard off the car for best results and just get it done and take my time doing it.. worst thing to happen is #OOPS#ed paint guess i still got a heap left and paint it again :S

I'd leave it on the car. More chance of it moving while cutting if it's loose off the car and I can't think of any benefit to removing it.

i did mine with a grinder years ago, 1mm cut off wheel. just cut slowly so you dont create too much heat...

thats a tuff looking coupe! i like the stance and the colour/wheel combo. were the rears widened?
