I need to replace the bush or bearing at the top of the steering column, behind the steering wheel, on a 1/1979 built 1200 ute. The steering wheel moves up & down more than a centimetre & the ute won't pass rego without being fixed.

I thought I had it tracked down through the part number catalogue on here. I got part no 48910-H1021 BUSH-COLUMN and found some available o/s.

Then I searched a bit more before ordering, and found:

For the 1971-1973 it is:
48910-H1021 BUSH-Column
But the newer utes use a totally different setup.

Does anyone have any details of what is needed for a 1979 model?

More searching turned up a mention of column bushes being NLA through Nissan, but possibly available through Mad Dat. A good find for me, he not only had one in stock (and more on order) but also has gearstick bushes as well, which is something I've been trying to source for a while. So now I have one of each on the way.

Generally make those column bushes out of a piece of round nolathane blank or similar, drill the centre hole first, grind the outer diameter down on a bench grinder till you get the right size, cut off the req,d length and fit, eeezy for maybee a dollar
