I have a A12 engine block can I use the head from a A12A ?

Yes you can -- after modification.

Aftermarket head gaskets for A12 fit larger bores too, so no problem there. If you are buying a new gasket from Nissan, obtain an A12A gasket or use an A14 gasket, as the A12A is a larger bore than the A12.

A12A came with different head types:
* round port head type 728
* round port head type 991
* Type H85 (japan/asia market only)
* A12A/A14 head type H95
This means you will need a matching intake manifold/exhaust manifold set to match the head.

Type H95 had larger chambers and will drop compression (lose power).

All head types need modifications to the early A12 style oil passage. See Oil passage in the head.

Head bolts go with the engine, irregardless of the head used.
