To me, an old school Datsun is any Datsun built before 1972. For some reason I don't like the styling the post '72 cars took on.

I believe during the mid 1970's the ADR's changed and they banned steel bumpers which had quite an effect on the look of Aussie cars.

cool. I guess you could call my sedan old school, flat black primer job, steelies, gutted interior. I describe old school as trying to get the most out of your ride with the least amount of $$$, even if it means striping parts from junk cars or even making them yourself, and always, always, doing your own work.

I think old school is relative to the age of the people in the question. Anything not current is old school. I heard 50 y/o's talking about old school as cars from the 30's. Guys in their 40's might think about old school as cars from the 60's and early seventies.I've been told several times I am old school because I favor the racy looks of the late seventies racing japanesse cars, low suspension, fat 13 inch wheels, overfender flares, no wrap around plastic, a front air dam at the most, black wheels,no chromes at all. I have listened to 18 y/o's talking about old school refering to cars from the 90's and 80's. A car as recent as a 96 is old school to a 18y/o. It is all relative.
Anything not recently bursting into the market could be considered old school, depends on the age of the person rendering judgement.

Exaclty. In the water-cooled VW crowd, the MK2 Golf/Jetta (85-92) is considered to be old school. No doubt when the MK5 comes out, the MK3 (93-98) will be relegated to old-school status too.

I would say to most young guys it means anything that is not the current trend, i.e. 5-8 years old or older.

I would consider a 2004 bakkie to be old skool......a carby A-series engine, original style body.

I think its the style of the car, and type of equipment in it that defines old skool.....not its age

definitely the style of the car, not what running gear it has.
i would consider my 240C olskool for sure, even though it has a 1UZFE and is copping XA falcon discs and 4 spot calipers, purely because i run 14in steelies with dogtin hubbies, std ride height, all chrome trims and black sheepskin seatcovers and a rear venetian.

it looks olskool, but i have a modern powerplant up front and rack and pinion steering.

otherwaise you're talking ratrod style - i mean, who wants an original car that you have spent a motza on only to be left with less oomph than a hyundai, 4 wheel drum brakes and a 4spd manual?

not me.

gimme the style anyday, but gimme the modern technology in it like EFI, r&p steering and a nice buzzing quad cam V8.
