Here in USA we use F350s to go to the grocery store. For a 7.8-liter engine 12 mpg is good for in-town fuel economy.

With the Flatslide FCRs, the jets will be different depending the size. FCR 39s will require larger jet than FCR 32s.

In Oz most people need to walk to get groceries as their lard makes 2 litre engined cars as economical as your 8 liter living room on wheels

I am not sure of the exact mileage on the 1200 but it is right around 15 mpg. Keep in mind the motor is never going below 4500 rpms.
For comparison when I raced a Showroom Stock Miata, the 1.6 motor never went below 5000 RPMs and returned a whooping 9 mpg.
Our current price for gas is 2.35 a gallon, my current tow vehicle (1990 Ford E250 5.8 V8 camper van) returns 12 mpg on it's own and 9-10 when towing the 1200.
As for that old F350, when I sold the Volvo rally car the buyer paid extra to have it delivered some 230 miles from me. On the way back we were in a hurry so I started driving 75 mph and it managed 4-5 mpg.
Now back on topic; I would be curious to see what the difference in fuel mileage is between bike carbs and other types. Based on the RPMs the new motor picked up at the end of the longest straight at my local track I believe the A15 is putting out about 110 HP to the rear wheels. The A12 with 80 HP to the rear wheels, got 20 mpg. When I had a standard A12GX I got something like 23-24 mpg.

Yes it is interesting fuel consumption on carburetors, My Stanza rally car (Violet or New 510 in the US and elsewhere) was pretty much Full group two factory car with many "Works" components Engine wise Std capacity Japanese L20 B block 11.3 CR either Early 219 casting Big Port SSS head ,Usual 44 mm inlets but 36 mm exhausts Factory group 2 cam 76 Degree 48 mm Webers 40 mm Chokes 4.875 Final Drive on 195/70 14 Dunlops SP 52 R E compound and on the few occasions I actually drove it to an event instead of Tilt Tray it averaged 36 MPG around 75~80 MPH.

I also had a factory FIA Cylinder head group 2 Legal FIA spec and that made even more torque and got another 3 MPG on transport stages, However in Competitive Stages it averaged 12 MPG in Dry conditions and got down to between 5~6 MPG in wet conditions.

Tom in fact the best power from Bike Carburetors I ever saw was replacing the Japanese Carburetors on Kawasaki's with smoothbore Mk 2 Amal carburetors, those babies really make good power when you dial them in.
They are round Brass plated smooth bore type carburetors not flat slide style but they really mix the fuel well and hence make good clean smooth power, they Jet up really well.

The Big trick in getting them to work was Cam and Ignition dialed in before fine tuning the Carburetors and that applies to anything, But even some of the best in the game do not get cam timing where it should be, My car with a 76 Degree cam pulled from a good 500 RPM earlier than other examples of similar spec engines.

It was actually more fuel efficient than My Stanza Coupe , Fuel Injected L20 B ex Howard Marsden and George Fury so having been the personal car of the Nissan and ex Ford Motorsport Manager in Australia (Howard) and then taken on Hand by George the Factory Rally and Bathurst Driver for Nissan it was nicely set up, But the Rally car was more economical because it was more efficient.

Hi,

New to site but your ride looks impressive. That's a lot of RS36's! I raced a Bugeye Sprite back in the day, but that's another story. Always liked the way those Datsuns went around a track, though.

I have a question: I have three of those bad boys on my '85 Laverda RGS1000SFC. I cannot get the left side carb to squirt fuel. Center and right side squirt like crazy. One or two cracks of the throttle. Left one, nada. Been trying for two weeks on and off. Nothing. There's fuel in the bowl. What's the trick? I hope it's not patience!

Not familiar with those Mikunis but it is going to be one of two things; a clogged passage if like the Kiehins on my car there is a central accelerator pump chamber or if each carb has a pump it could be the pump has a worn or damaged piece.
