Yeah I'm pretty sure you hit that one right on the head, the C-12's are Toyota piece from what I know come off of the 1JZ engines. I would think it's not a bad turbo for the A series as it is ball bearing, but be careful as they are ceramic ball bearings and as soon as you start overboosting them they won't last long. I'm not sure if the 1JZ uses a sequential twin turbo setup or not or really how it works on those cars, but from what I heard about sequential twin turbos, one turbo is for the low rpms and one is for high rpms...I dunno about that, but honestly I think it would be a great little turbo for the A series.

CT12 is on a variety of cars Namely Toyotas, they come out on a Toyata Starlets, Corsa, Corolla II, and Soarers. I had a Toyota Corsa 1.5 Litre and found the turbo a bit small. t25G or a t28 would have been better, by the time I hit 5500rpm the turbo would be screaming atis shaft off, boost came in too early around 2200-2500rpm which at cruising is annoying.

You will only be able to run the CT-12 in a blow through setup as you can't get a carbon seal kit for them.
