Sorry - I commented on the build thread instead of this one.
Will try again later to delete it off.

All good Zig, Mods can clean it up if need be.

I've been thinking about the dizzy mod. The easiest way would be to have the points trigger the ECU. It would be the least amount of work and cost but it will not be the best for reliability or timing accuracy. The Hall type sensors are very robust and reliable and give out a much cleaner signal than Magnetic sensors. Megasqurit recommend not using mag sensors in the dissy aswell.

Ive just ordered a 12 tooth motorbike sprocket form Ebay for less than $9 delivered. It does have a taper on the teeth but it should trigger a hall sensor ok. I have a couple of Honeywell GT101 sensors that I can use, but might be good if I can find a cheep hall sensor at the wreckers as the new GT101's are about $70-80.

If anyone here knows what cars run a hall sensor would save me a bit of searching!! You can tell the Hall sensors by having 3 wires coming from them not 2 like the Mag sensors.

Jaycar sell a generic automotive hall sensor

http://www.jaycar.com.au/Active-Compo ... ce-Re-introduced/p/ZD1900

You can probably buy the same component elsewhere for a few bucks if you search on the part number. $20- probably isn't worth spending much time to save though.

Cheers for that, That type requires the teeth pass through the middle of the sensor. It would make the trigger wheel a bit hard to make. Good value tho!!
I've just found a GT101 copy on digikey for less than $40(+postage).
http://www.digikey.com.au/product-sea ... ?v=18&mpart=55505-00-02-B
I'll see what else is out there.

EDIT: actually, that Jaycar sensor would be ok if it could be mounted on its side(bolted inside the curve of the dizzy body). Then it could use a simple flat trigger wheel.. I like!

Flat trigger wheels are pretty easy to model and get laser cut to. Can configure them however you want then.

I could knock up a solid model pretty quick if you tell me teeth and pattern.

Cool, I do some thinking re the wheel. I've just ordered one of the sensors from that Jaycar site. Only cost $26 inc. delivery, heaps cheaper than buying them off ebay!

I might have to fit the sensor in the body before I can workout the disc diameter. It will only be about 6cm diameter and 1.5mm thick.

Still here...Thinking out aloud, If we did use a flat trigger wheel combined with the Jaycar Hall sensor, the sesor would have to be mounted though the outside of the dissy body after the flat wheel was installed. There will only be about .25mm ether side of the disc. This could make it hard to get the mounting right and could quickly get frustrating for some. The sensor is on it way, so ill have a play and see how tricky it gets...
If it all gets ugly, i might use the M bike sprocket and gt101. These only have be within a couple of mm to work.

Another option might be to build your own mount? Use a Hall switch like this http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/2Pcs-New-L ... in_15&hash=item3f44b2b071 (there's plenty to choose from) and mount a magnet on the other side of the flat trigger wheel. I fiddled around trying to fit stuff in a stock dizzy before going EDIS.

You might also find you can take a bit off the housing, we use optical switches at work that you can take ~1mm off them without any issues. I'll keep thinking about it but I'm sure you'll come up with something good.
