How about using the wreckers cas from a hyundai 4 cyl heaps of them around to pull apart? Just thinking out loud too as it looks like this, parts look easy to remove but has 4 senders if one could be anulled?

Another idea to work with a Hall switch, 2mm alu plate, OD60mm drilled to accept 4 off 6mm magnets, the only caveat is to make sure the poles all face the same way.

(http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/5-Pieces-P ... in_15&hash=item2590bad84b)

You could 3D print the carrier (mine's out of action at the moment) but the temperature's a little borderline for the material it prints in.

All that said, the sprocket option is looking pretty good. The easiest would be a conversion kit like CLYONS sells so a trade off between effort and cost (as usual).

Edit: I'll butt out now.

Wouldnt this stuff get a little out of peoples realm of "easy" or "Simple"?

Mitsubishi 3.3 ltr V6 motors use a 3 wire hall sensor-cylinder for cam angle. Dodge Caravan's here in the states do as well.

Starter kit - no sensor

The Excel x3 looks like it uses hall sensors for cam and crank. It might be easier for people to grab one from the same car as the throttle body.

Hey Matt, A crank trigger would be the best way to go. using wasted spark coils. I'm not sure mounting it to the crank pulley would be very easy either though.

One advantage of the 12 tooth cam trigger is it would give sequential capability with one trigger(not much point with microsquirt tho). It would have to have one tooth removed either way. I might do a couple of triggers and see what is easiest/cheapest. Maybe I should start with using the standard points to trigger it!!

This shows how to use the points for triggering(kettering triggering):

This shows the best ignition module to use and how to wire it:
http://www.megamanual.com/ms2/Bosch_124.htm

Cant get much easier or cheaper than that!!

The point will be just as good as the timing's ever been in the A12!

One thing I would say is that the 1k resistor is probably too high. I used one of the Silicon Chip HEI kits and they suggest a much lower resistance value to stop the point fouling/ gumming up with oil vapour. I'll look up what's in my old kit when I get home.

Edit: 100 Ohm 5W is the resistor in the Silicon Chip HEI for the points pick up.

How about using a e15et dizzy. Its almost a bolt in. An adapter plate and re drill the hole for the cog wasn't it?

Trigger wheels are super easy to use. There is no load on them so they can be bolted to the stock pulley (no welding or drilling needed). Using a common wrecking yard sensor is superior to points trigger, and cheap too. Hall effect sensor is just a magnetic sensor with a built-in amp. Plain magnetic sensor is more reliable but needs an inexpensive shielded cable.

Can use common GM or Ford coil packs with the Bosch 124. The CA18/SR20 "ignitor" can be substituted for the Bosch 124. All these including the Bosch can be found in wrecking yards.

I thought mounting a trigger wheel to the A series pulley would be a real pain.. maybe I should have another look at it.

Nearly finished the distributor trigger option. Its using the Hyundai excel X3 cam sensor(off the same car as the throttle body). Cost was $15. and the 12 tooth trigger wheel was just under $8 delivered.
Still happy to play with other options aswell.

The same Hyundai has wasted spark twin coils, that would work with this ecu as well.

Here's a preview of the distributor with the sensor mounted. The sensor is mounted on allthread to be able to adjust the sensor/trigger wheel gap. I'll obviously do a step by step of the finished product of whatever makes it to the build thread..
