A magnet shouldn't stick to 304 (or any 300 series) since it's an Austenitic SS. If it's magnetic (ferritic) it's probably low on nickel content. I guess the only other things to watch are pitting corrosion and corrosion near the welds. That more about selecting the right filler rod, pickling properly and good process control.
