A longer rod to stroke ratio is more sensitive to cam timing and makes the most of big cams. Stock vs stock a longer rod wouldn't be worthwhile.

spur of the moment - I just entered the mighty Y in a dirt sprint this weekend. It's always good fun on their smooth dirt circuit. Last one I did was 4 years ago in the 180SX I had.

Well Harry, that's a relief. But I was trying to arrange finances if necessary for myself. I second the rear sway bar, & a half leaf fitted to the top of the spring pack. I did the half leaf to a Sunny Van I had, to get rid of wheel hop, it definitely did the job. Now the hilarious (ha ha) comment. Left hand drive. That'll get the driver weight to the correct side for Mt Cotton. It'd give you a great view down the hill, & get you away from the crunchy side after the finish line. Strange place, Mt Cotton, more accidents after the finish line than the rest of the track. Or, 2 steering wheels, one either side.
I picked up some cheap ($70) rear gas shocks on Ebay last week. Hopefully this is the short cut & they have some more. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/1814019668 ... eName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT.
Could be what you want. Another no-name addition to the weapon.

Now, a question about that short rod/long rod L18. I've got some 86mm Z20e pistons with a raised pin height. does anyone know if I use an L20B crank in an L18 using L18 rods, will the Z20e piston work without too much machining. Would be good If it's close.

You can use mid to late 80s Navara short shocks for the rear much more heavy duty than those ebay ones, great price for stockys though.
for long vs short rod info, theres more but some good points

Thanks Paul - I just grabbed a pair of those shocks. I saw Stan Pobjoy was on the entry list for last weekend. Thought I might see you there pit crewing again, but he didn't end up coming...
lol LHD would definitely be an advantage for me!

This might give people a bit of an idea about what Lover's Leap is like - the witches hats on the right of the photo is roughly where those 2 wheel photos are taken. You come round this long left hand 180degree corner, then get launched over a little uphill crest just as the road drops away from underneath you. Not many go over that flat out - you hear plenty of throttle lifting. I take it at full noise... lol
Later in the lap you come back over this crest in the other direction, then take a left fork where that silver ute is to the finish line. On the way back it tends to throw cars sideways - it's not a very wide track, with no run-off room, so it tends to separate the men from the boys... Awesome place to get an adrenaline fix :)

Datto ran great again at the dirt sprint this weekend. A 200km round trip and racing hard all day with lots of full throttle sideways wheel spinning action. The underrated Stanza 63A is doing well so far - no issues at all. Just like in my previous L18 1200. I had the boost wound back to 7psi today. No need for more boost on dirt. Doesn't seem to go much different anyway!

Results are up http://iwmac.org.au/uploads/19%20Jul%2015%20DS%20Outright.pdf

120Y got 15th outright in a field of 49, and 3rd in class. Not too bad considering most cars there are trailered race cars setup just for the dirt track on soft sticky tyres. I used my secondhand 540 treadwear Nankangs street tyres, and was really just there to go as sideways as I could - but sideways as fast as possible ;)

I'll check the camera tonight - went back to my old camera after the hilclimb last weekend. The new one has a nice clear image inside the car, but loses over a second of action between each 3min file it creates, which ruins the videos. So I had the old camera mounted on the side of the car. No idea if the footage will be ok, or just a cloud of dust!

Lots of the regulars at the dirt sprint were on Achillies 123S tyres - they reckon hey work really well out there. I have a basically new set (1 track day old) at home not mounted since I put the A050s on the 15" ROTAs. So I just ordered some cheap 15x8 0 offset steelies to fit my Achillies tyres on. I'll go back and have another crack at the dirt at their next dirt sprint :) It's heaps of fun, and I want to have a go on level terms with the other guys since I have the tyres sitting there doing nothing anyway...
