I have just finished my A15 mild built motor and it runs great. It has a home built manifold with twin SU carbs, (I know there is one made I just couldnt find one when I needed it.) mild cam, balanced rotational parts, custom pistons, lightened flywheel, competition clutch but stock pressure plate, and GX head. The only problem I am having is the clutch is slipping. Can I resurface the flywheel, or do I need a new one? Any help would be much appreciated. Mike

Your pressure plate is probably the culprit here. Not enough clamp for the power your motor is putting out. Your best bet is to take your flywheel, clutch plate and pressure plate down to your local clutch specialist and get him to make you a newand better setup.

welcome!, chuck your location in your profile so we can help
i have been getting a15 heavy duty clutches from a local brakes place at only $100 the set (pressure plate etc included), they are listed for vanettes, i think part no. R179HD but could be wrong, it's a daikin clutch sold in a PBR kit, had them in my rallycar and recent turbo setups and havent noticed any slipping yet

Thanks for the speedy replies! I just got finished taking the engine and trans out and upon inspection, I think you guys are right. Its a rare Nismo clutch disc, but just a stock light duty pressure plate. I will check out my local parts shop later this AM. The flywheel has the slight stepdown outside of the friction surface, so I figure it is ok. I probably will need to rebalance once I get the new Pressure plate.

get the kit as 1200rc said, i got one just waiting to put on new motor, my mechanic says its the toughest one for the a series before custom stuff, or expensive, my mechanic is very " dont waste your $$$ if you dont need it for a brand name" with that output from your a15, id be more worried if the 4 speed gearbox will take the punishment and the stock diff

OK Went to my local parts supplier. They do not list any HD parts for the A15 motor. I wonder if the clutch disc is thinner because it is a competition one. I will call NISMO and see if they still list a PP assembly. More later.

Thanks Unfamilia for the parts nos. info. I called NISMO this AM. They have one last comp clutch cover in stock...for the giveaway price of $274.00 US!! I decided not to go that route. I went to the parts store to check out what they had, and realized I was running the wrong clutch cover. It was for a Datsun 310. Bolted up just fine, but not nearly tight enough. I will keep my NISMO clutch disc, and use the proper cover. I think that will solve my problems. It's all reassembled but I havent hooked everything up yet. Maybe tommorrow. Then I will report back on results.

Ok Its all back together now. I lucked into a heavy duty Pressure plate at my local parts store in Burbank California. Seems I had the wrong pressure plate in to begin with. In case anyone is wondering, the 310 pressure plate will bolt right up to the 210 flywheel....Just wont give enough clamping force to get up an ant hill!!

Thanks for sharing. It's good to know that just because they bolt up doesn't mean it's the right one.
For our friends in other countries, the "Datsun 310" is the 1978-1982 fwd N10 (Pulsar) and the "Datsun 210" is the rwd 1979-1982 B310 Sunny.
