Okay, I'm back from Thailand (LOVE that place!) and can finally focus on the Datsun again. This week I will get the engine and tranny mounts done, probably be done by next weekend. Met a dude at the shop that used to live/race in my old neighborhood in San Antonio, Texas and he knows how to weld and has all the equipment so we're going to dig into it probably Wednesday after the shop opens back up. Picked up the tuned ECU and Tomei wire adapter for the Z32 MAFS, and the intercooler and injectors are sitting in my mailbox at the Post Office until Tuesday.

Hi Andy

Nice to hear you're back.
Please think of my March K10 Turbo hood.

Regards,

A few items I got in the mail recently for the project. Also, a Walbro 255LPH EFI inline fuel pump is now on it's way which is plenty for running the kind of horsepower I'm aiming for. Here's some pictures

Greddy intake, T28 turbo, Nismo 555cc injectors/regulator

Belgian Roadster, you just wanted the part number for the hood right? What year March Super Turbo are you looking for? I will give it a shot, the way things work here in Japan is the car parts people don't want to help you if you don't walk up to them with the actual registration form from the car you are requesting parts for! I have no idea why they do this, the garage here on base is the worst...which is why my Kouki taillight set from a newer 180SX has been sitting uninstalled for the last couple months, all I need is part numbers for the key lock, reverse lights, and bulb sockets and the bastards won't help me. Anyway I will give it a try.

What's up with the hostilities matbighat? I don't think Saibaba would be happy with your comment. I told you I only have access to the chrome GX mirrors! And the Watanabes you wanted for your Subaru you said you'd email me pictures and I never got those, I'd need exact sizes (backspacing, width, bolt patternetc) to know exactly what to look for. Also, there's a set of chrome headers for sale right now on Ebay for the 1200 that will clear the steering box on a LHD car. They're cheaper than the Matsuoka ones ($500) which are for RHD Utes and not guaranteed to fit LHD cars.

AFRacer,

What kind of BLOW OFF VALVE are you going to use?

I will probably be using my HKS blow off valve that is on my 180SX right now, and then the 180 will just re-use the stock one instead. They both hold boost really well and it's not too too loud/obnoxious. Here's a link to the same one that I'm talking about.

Every engine swap/project car write up I have seen on the internet has an entry such as this one...not much progress in the last couple weeks, work and friends has kept me busy. Anyway, I went today to work on the beast and my plan was to get the engine mounts done, but the stall I needed to get into was taken already for nearly all the free time I had. So, I will have to wait again until next Saturday, when I'm going to get there as soon as they open so no one else can take the spot that I need. I have been buying more parts for it though and gotten some accomplishment. The EFI fuel pump (Walbro 255 lph inline) is on it's way as well as the stainless steel turbo outlet pipe/dump pipe and new stainless steel braided lines for the turbo (oil and coolant). I think I'm going to go ahead and buy the Nismo engine and transmission mounts ($200) as the stock ones are very weak and separate easily. I also bought all the steel bar stock for constructing the engine and tranny mounts, so you can't say I haven't done anything!

Oh yeah, I also came to the conclusion that the Greddy intake isn't going to work very well without modification (stock WILL work fine though). So I will be sending it to a friend in Okinawa (thanks Scott @ S-tec!) who is going to cut it back and reweld it so I can use a 90mm/Q45 throttle body!! You can't use the stock 180SX TB on the Greddy intake without mods anyway! I'm also going to send him the water outlet off the engine so he can cut and reweld it so it points 90 degrees straight up instead of straight forward into the radiator. This similar mod can be seen on other Datsun 1200 and 510 SR20 conversions on the internet.

In the mean time since I couldn't work on the Datsun I painted the new rear panel for my 180SX tail light conversion and ordered the final pieces of the "Kouki" or round tail light conversion (1995+ 180SX) for it. I also scored a nice set of S15 Silvia seats that will replace the stock 180SX seats...I'm also going to check out how they might fit into the 1200...if they fit okay then I'm going to be on the lookout for another pair of S15 seats Well that's it for now...until next weekend!

Andy,

I love this kind of thing... a progress report of a conversion such as this. Do you plan to write up a webpage? Let me know if you need some space to put it up as I've got plenty.

Will this be road registered? If so how are the japanese laws on registering it? Do they go on the car or the engine?

I think I will have to make a trip to japan some time, there some to be some amazing old school cars there. Are there any motor shows or anthing which are particularly good?

Anyway nice work, cant wait to see pics when its done :)

Rich
