When I was sounding the old fella out about the 2.2, without wanting to seem too interested, I kinda got the impression he wasn't too keen on getting rid of it. He seemed quite attached to his million km 720 King Cab stroker, even though it's now just rusting away in a paddock. It would have been a cool machine back in it's day - Recaro seats, big 2.2 stroker, early Z yoked-output 5spd box, custom fabricated alloy checker-plate tray liner... That was the part I managed to get! I think my chances of getting more goodies off it are significantly lower now that I don't have my king cab - mine was the same colour as his and seemed to revive that sparkle in his eye lol But to be honest I'd prefer an L16 anyway. Ssee what happens. Hardest part of the conversion might be tracking down another late model auto 120Y sedan to steal the diff and tailshaft out of...
Anyway, I drove the coupe over to my mate Nev's place last night and put it up on his hoist to sort out the exhaust. Since I lowered it, the exhaust was hard against the diff. Decided the easiest way for now was to simply cut it off just ahead of the diff and tack a dump pipe on. Will sort it out properly when doing the L16 swap. But it sounds nice and rorty now hehe

Some cheap parts came up that may have changed the plan a bit... And I won't have to feel guilty about cutting and welding stuff to get a L16 in there.

Fitted the strut tops yesterday to finish the lowering job. And trimmed the rear bump stops down to suit the shock travel. Also fitted an engine guardian - temp and volt gauge with programmable alarm levels.

took it for a run over a mountain this morning. Had to massage the left rear gaurd a bit more when I got home - just very light scrubbing there on big bumps. Also needs to be a bit firmer in the rear to prevent bottoming out, which it only does on the very harsh bumps, so I'll add an extra leaf like I did for the 2dr sedan just recently. Will raise it up about an inch, but that's OK, I like a bit of rake anyway.
And the stock vinyl seat - no good in the twisties! It will have to swapped with a SAAS seat as well I think. Should help me get my head off the roof lining too.
Little A14 was surprisingly torquey in the hills. I was impressed! And the wide stock radiator is great, didn't go over 73degrees up the mountain, and good in traffic through the city on the way back too, and it was a hot morning here!

weighbridge says it weighs 815kg with 1/2 tank. 25kg more than the 2dr sedan did when it was stock. 2dr sedans were the lightest model - no carpets, radio, clock, tach etc. Not too bad a weight penalty for all those luxuries and style! :)

woohoo! Found a late model auto sedan being wrecked on Facebook in Brisbane. Picked up the big Borg Warner diff, auto tailshaft to fit the L series box and another set of leaves to make up a stiffer set. Also scored a rust free bonnet. Brendan who bought the 2dr sedan gave me some of the spares back to help out: Stanza 63A 5spd, the 260Z King springs which were good for road use with the L series conversion, and a bunch of other stuff he's replaced in the 2dr: speakers and mp3 amp, gauges etc. Top bloke!

4 day weekend coming up Harry, surely you can score the rest by Friday & have it finished by Monday.(Don't laugh, this could happen). Seems I'll be swapping the engine in my Sunny wagon back to it's stock A15 after the A12 dropped onto half a cylinder going to work yesterday morning. To add to the problem, I was then caught by radar accelerating out of a school zone in the replacement car (Sunny Coupe with an all or nothing A15), got done for 50ks in a 40k zone, with the gun eventually showing 70k's, but it was a 70 zone by then. & my uncle was caught by the same set up when he came to meet the tow truck taking the wagon home. As I was wearing brand new underwear yesterday, I'll think I'll burn that pair, they're obviously bad luck.

Would it be possible to get a late model Nissan Micra, fit the 1.8 litre motor from a Tiida & then turbocharged it? Your answer must include parts numbers for the conversion. You have 12 months. Commence.

haha Might be possible if I weren't going away for a few days over easter. Should have some time to play around a little - at least clean and paint all those parts on Monday. Maybe add a leaf to the springs as well.
I know a lawyer who would tell you to contest that - don't let them get away with that rubbish! Unfortunately, I think he only says that because he's of the opinion that the money is better in his pocket than in the govt coffers... either way, it costs us plebs! But you can try a letter - didn't work for me, but apparently some people get fines cancelled that way.

removed the 32/36 and Rowland manifold and boxed them up to send to the new owners. So I started swapping the L series Hitachis on this arvo. I figure I may as well get them up and running before doing the L series conversion. They'll be worth some money that way, and be easier to sell than a bunch of parts... The A series manifold has the carbs 15mm closer together, so a quick cut and shut on the linkage and adding a cable pull wheel or lever will do it. I cut the heat shield down the middle and overlapped it. It clears the extractors, so that's all good. I'll rivet that together to avoid rattles. Also going to delete the pollution gear. I decided to use the L series 16mm bakelite spacers instead of the 4mm A series ones that came with the manifold. And I'll probably make up some air filters from alloy sheet - reckon they'll be better and cheaper than off the shelf ones.
