Does your IGN toggle switch connector the W wire to the B/W wire? That is the correct way to do it. The W wire is the main 12V, and the B/W is the IGN feed/out wire. The toggle switch turns the IGN on
Your wiring is messed up. You have a burnt wire, things aren't working correctly and wire colors are changed? Now you have a choice: * Try various changes and see if more things work or * Wire it correctly Doing it correctly doesn't mean you have to go back to the Key start system. You can still use the toggle switch and do it right The coil is interesting because from the factory, the 1200 coil has two wires: * NEG terminal: Black wire to Distributor * POS terminal: B/W wire to Ballast Resistor If you have more than theses wires it is not stock wiring and may have been modified by a previous owner the engine will run if these wires are reversed, but is not as efficient. The easy fix for the coil is to swap the wires
Quote: i run the BW wire to the neg of the coil and my alteernator started charging again, postive to toggleswitch-then out to positive of the coil? The right way to do it is POS battery wire (White wire from Fusible Link) to the IGN Toggle switch, then out to positive of the coil ballast resistor (B/W wire). Coil POS connected to ballast resistor (not directly to IGN wire). The coil should not be connected directly to 12V or it won't last long ![]() As you can see from this factory wiring diagram, a branch of the B/W wire should also go to the Fuse Box, thus powering meter (dash), voltage regulator, reverse lights, and wiper/washer/heater(fan) ![]()
